Eden E300T

How about an update from those of you who have had the amps for a month or 2 now?

Reliability still there?? Cheezewiz any more problems since you got yours back. Are they holding up to gigging?

Anyone done measurements on true output power?

How do they sound compared to an svt or a boogie?

Soundclips anyone?

I'm thining of grabbin' one up.

Just sold mine. Seemed nice and reliable as I had no issues after playing it hard for awhile.

Tone-wise, its not an SVT. Not bad just different. Maybe closer to a Boogie (haven't had one in a few years so going from memory)?

Treading on subject areas trying to describe sound here. Maybe thinner, not as ballsy as an SVT. Less flexible eq for sure. The guys in the band way preferred the SVT.

I'd say a killer bargin though. If'n you're wanting a low cost tube amp its very cool. Through a VT pedal in front of it and you've got some great tone.

For me, It was redundant as I've got a VR and CL. If I had preferred it over my standard, the SVT, I would've kept it but instead decided to turn it into cash for another bass :)

Has anyone had hiss problems from this amp? The harmony-central review complained about a constant hiss level. I like to record new ideas at low volume when the band isn't around so his would be a problem for me. I play a fender jazz with Ultra Jazz humbukers in it. I read on this forum that a p-bass through this amp was overly noisy, would my J also be overly noisy?

The only hiss I get from mine is when I'm standing really really close to the head. Happens with passive and active basses.

My '78 P wasn't noisy at all either, and I have a horn-loaded cab. It's certainly not as loud as my WT400 but it's got more sustain and 'growls' better. Much more 'rock' than 'funk' although you could cover both genres with both amps.

Not as 'dirty' as an Ampeg either, but a little sweeter.

Thanks for the reply, would you suggest the WT550 for funk over the E300T? Why?

I play Funk, Jazz, R&B and a little Rock. I have a passive J-bass and a Ampeg SVT-410HE and Avatar 112 Neo cabs.

Which Eden head would you suggest? I currently use a Genz Benz 6.0 but wanted to give Eden a shot before jump to the 12.0.

i dont really like it. it sounds really flabby and has very little tone. i have tried it through a variety of speaker enclosures and cannot find anything really decent to say about this amp. for 300 watts, my musicman HD130 blows this things away. for the money you would be spending on a 300T you would be better off getting a real 50 watt amp made in USA.

i recently had an amp built for me in NM. place called SON SET BEACH. it is a 50 watt head with el34's in it and it runs like a champ. for a few dollars more it just leaves the eden in the scrap pile. for 300 watts this amp just doesnt get loud

unless you like toneless flab for your bass guitar then go ahead. i think this amp is worthless. also i have called customer service 3 times about biasing for other tubes and i have gotten no reply back after each person has promised to help me out.

my experience with EDEN 300t

^ I'd suggest you have an issue with your 300T . My experience with the 300T shows it to be equal in volume to other 6x 6550/KT88 amps. I also would not classify the 300T as flabby.

I can't argue with the fact that you may prefer the tone of your 50 over the 300T but the other comments lead me to the conclusion that 300T is not running properly.

Not sure what you mean about biasing for other tubes. Tubes other then the KT88/6550 are not supported. If you were asking about using EL34s in it as an example, it may be why the question was ignored.

first off i really have a thing about tube amps made in china. they sound really chump compared to american or british. my opinion.

second, shouldnt they test these things before they send them out? mine is brand new. i have played it through all my bass cabs.my 50watt amp i cannot turn up past 3 or my windows will shake out of my house. this 300 eden volume 3 sounds like volume 9.5,, crap, and not very impressive for the 300 watts it boasts as i mentioned earlier. and if only kt88 are usable, then how come they cannot simply tell me that. i dont like people who sell things they cannot back up with support.

third, i would rather use 2, 50 watt heads (which is what i do now) over anything else. unless i am playing a stadium, i really see anything more as superlative.

i dont know all the technical whereasses, but i do know what my ears hear. i have about 10 or so tube amps, and this one is on the list of get rid of.

i also seem to have a problem with these mass produced higher end guitar warehouse amps. i have ruined several mesa drivers, as well as a couple amps. crate,,,, please. i had a GK i thought it sounded pretty decent. SWR mmmmmmmmmm,,,ok. i always go back to the fender bassman ten 50watt head i have had for 25 years. i find the more wattage, the more problems. like the 8x10, man they look cool. how often you replacing speakers.

through my experience if you are not spending the money on a boutique amp or paying to have something modded to actually be cool, you may as well save the money and get something cheaper and maybe stay with an SS amp. if i wasnt such a tweaker i would be happy with a sunn beta lead or my old GK

1. Your ears. Fine.

2. $#@% happens. I'm guessing it was tested. Stuff happens in shipping and otherwise to Chinese, Brit and American made stuff. If I received a 300w amp that could not play as loud or louder then a 50, rather then contacting the mfg on what other tubes I could possibly use in the thing I'd be finding out how to get it serviced or replaced under warranty. Maybe they didn't reply to your question on tube types as they may have thought it kind of an irresponsible question given the manual states the tube types. Who knows?

3 and 4. Peace. Your ears. FYI I sold my 300t as well. Not because it was flabby or had weak output. Just cause I'm an SVT kinda guy. Oh, BTW superlative means surpassing all others. I'm guessing you meant unnecessary.

5. More watts=more problems. I Don't know if there is a correlation to amp output and the number of related issues. Maybe just from a parts count standpoint the likelihood of an event occurring could be directly proportional. I don't think its related to power output though. A well designed and built amp is just that regardless of the watts rating. Replacing speakers? In my eight x 10's - never. Always driven with 300-400w tube amps.

Your experience and tastes are legit. To me a good bass into an SVT 8x10 is all I need. I'd never hear myself with 2 50 watters.

You may or may not dig the Eden. No matter. I would get it serviced though, then give it another shot. Who knows?

Hi.

Welcome to TalkBass jaco batista

Sorry to hear You have problems with your Smarvo, because that's what the amp is, despite what ever anyone tells you. Unless Eden techs give out OT specs that differ much from Fame and Ashton.

shouldnt they test these things before they send them out? mine is brand new. i have played it through all my bass cabs.my 50watt amp i cannot turn up past 3 or my windows will shake out of my house. this 300 eden volume 3 sounds like volume 9.5,, crap, and not very impressive for the 300 watts it boasts as i mentioned earlier. and if only kt88 are usable, then how come they cannot simply tell me that. i dont like people who sell things they cannot back up with support.

Tested? You're kidding us.

It probably was "tested" in the factory, but at least mine (Fame) was just put in a Fame box.

There's no tube amp designed for over 600V B+ that can use any other current production, commonly available tubes than KT88/6550. If You're into tube amps, that's common knowledge IMHO.

i dont know all the technical whereasses, but i do know what my ears hear. i have about 10 or so tube amps, and this one is on the list of get rid of.

Like said earlier, either the amp is broken (wouldn't be the first DOA E300T), a tube or a two is in its last legs (mine had 1), or the biasing is off.

To what mV reading do You bias yours?

In any case, it do sounds like a trip to a Eden tech would be in order, even if it means shipping the head back.

BTW, played a loud rock gig in a bar last weekend. Master at 9'o clock other knobs at noon, drive engaged. I got some complaints of being too loud, through a low sensitivity 410+115.

Sam

like i said,,,,, where do you really need this much power? i play a variety of venues with my double 50 watt rig. i dont understand how you would not be able to hear yourself. dont your sound men have line in or mic your amp? unless you are playing outdoor festivals i dont see the need

i am into tone not tech. my ears do not lie. with my MG mufffeliz going to one amp and the other running clean.

i really only need this amp for my noisy band.

superlative:an exaggerated mode of expression

i wont be sending it back. i already changed the grill clothe. while i had the head out of the box i covered it in truck bed liner. i should take the thing to my local tech and see what he can do. i did find a couple loose screws. i just think part of it has to do with quality. example, for my practice PA i have a 400W crate amp, and a 200W crown. the crown is by far the better amp. cleaner and louder. anyone else ever try the truck bedliner?

i never did get my owners manual for the thing either

so i call my amp tech. this guy actually builds amps. he tells me this bias thing is pretty much a bunch of BS for busy bodies to have something to talk about. tech tells me, unless bias is way off, not much to notice. you know, i have had my fender bassman tube amp since i was 20, i am 44 now, i got it used, replaced the tubes about 4 times, never biased them once, never had a problem. this biasing thing has been brought to my attention within the last year or so. tech also tells me what i have been thinking all along. cheap parts make for a cheap quality amp. i turn the tone knobs on this eden and nothing really happens. my THD on the other hand, has this huge tone control. sure same price, but a fraction of the wattage, but the THD has 5x the tone.

and why shouldnt i be able to think that i can use multiple tubes set ups, especially with the external bias adjustment? my THD, SON SET BEACH, LEE JACKSON, all take a variety of tubes, if not ANY tube i put in it.

but like i said, i am into tone and not tech. so talk all the tech jargon you want. my ears are still telling me what i need to know.

no i havent. i bought this online and do not have any dealers nearby. it works, it just doesnt have the ouptut it should and there is no use even having the knobs on it for tone, they do very little if anything at all.

the distortion built in is worthless, the mid shift does do something when it is used. this is just a very poorly made amp , made out of cheap parts.

i wouldnt compare this to a mesa, more like a crate. this smarvo is very lack luster IMHO

Hi.

I don't need that much power, if the 200W that my head produces can be considered a lot of power ;).

so i call my amp tech. this guy actually builds amps. he tells me this bias thing is pretty much a bunch of BS for busy bodies to have something to talk about. tech tells me, unless bias is way off, not much to notice.

If You really understood your tech correctly (which I doubt), perhaps you should change the tech to someone who actually knows something about tubes, and multi tube A/B PP circuitry in general. The only amps that don't need biasing for different tubes are class A amps. If the bias is off, the tubes don't work as a team, nor at their peak.

Two tube A/B PP is simple. The offset clipping that is a result of non-biased, perhaps non matched pair of tubes, may even sound pleasant to someones ears. Edit:Some players (harmonica) have been said to use a 12DW7 assymmetrical double triode as a PI to throw the push pull sides out of whack.

but like i said, i am into tone and not tech. so talk all the tech jargon you want. my ears are still telling me what i need to know.

And Your ears are telling you that the amp is probably broken at the moment.

My tone controls don't do much compared with some of the pre's I've used, but they do work like a simple tone-stack like that should.
It does sound to me like one or two of Your pre amp tubes are defective.

Are the tubes EH's or Ruby's?

Distortion?? You mean the drive circuit?

It does just add another subtle gain-stage to the pre (1/2 of the V2 IIRC), for lower volume playing, I wouldn't describe it as distortion (nor overdrive for that matter). Does help for getting a punchier tone though.

I have owned for a very very brief time both the 500 and world tour 800, and I dumped both of them quick. I did keep the xlt cabs, but I cant stand Eden amps. In my opinion they are highly overrated, and there wattage claims seem to be overrated as well. I didn't mind the tone so much I just find them week and a pain in the A** to EQ. I prefer simple EQ over tons of EQ, but thats me. I am sure the EQ options are great for some, but I have always opted for amps that sound great with minimal fuss. Maybe the 300T is a good amp, but I'm to jaded against Eden to try it especially for the price

i am sure you are right 100%. i shouldnt listen to a 50+ year old man who has been gigging out before i was born. maybe i shouldnt listen to a man who has been building and repairing amps for 20+years.

maybe i should listen to someone who swears by an amp made in china.

another thing about power rating. how do they get that? dont they push the amp til it blows and say thats how much power it gives. do they rate on peak power or continuous power?

i am with rocky on this. it is just a cheap amp with a flat sound, its over rated and simply just not all that

and you are right about this, i more than likely do not understand all the jargon my tech is telling me...... oh wait didnt i say that about 5 times this thread already. i do know this. as i said, i have never , ever biased any amp, and i have never ever had a problem. i have never heard of biasing until the last year or so. i have been using tube amps for decades. the ampeg V4 never got biased, and how many tubes are in there?
