At least for the ones I've played/heard, whizzer designs do seem to have their own kind of voicing deal going on that you wouldn't expect to be all that different just looking at the speaker. IME experience they have worked best with cleaner tones from acoustic instruments and URB. I use it with my passive bass to give me a warmer/earthier acoustic type of sound than I'd frequently get with a horn or piezo type HF driver.I just played through it, and my well considered advice is to burn it. Now I know I hate wizzers.![]()

That's the real benefit I see in these EX 110 and 112 cabs - weight, size and price. For me, the tone is fine within certain limits, but not nearly as flexible across a broad range of uses like a Mesa Subway 112, Berg HDN112, etc. For the money, and for the right jobs, they are a great value.Shame as it's a nice size and price, not much to compare in that price bracket that I can see...
I wouldn't. This will also change the TS parameters. This driver is voiced in conjunction with the wizzer, probably better to investigate a more predictable solution IMO.Carefully cut the whizzer cone off and see if that improves the sound.
There are no crossovers with wizzer cones.
They do not "buzz", they are a direct coupled re-radiator which are designed to extend the frequency response as well as expand the radiation pattern of the higher frequencies.
That extra cone is adding the high frequency content (5KHz+). The "whizzer" cone is a reason I've not yet tried that cab as an extension cab for my Promethean, but maybe I will...
It may not be the wizzer cone, it may very well be due to the main cone. The wizzer may or may not exaggerate it.The sizzle from the whizzer cone is what I wanted to eliminate.
It adds an extra bit of distortion that I don't care for.
Mids is good, neither low low or high high, just kind of wishy-washy in the middle, LOL.
Name one that's only around 3,500 cubic inches and around 25 pounds.
Got it.It sounds fine clean. I'm using a Quilter Tone Block now, so my EQ options are limited. I went through some EQ changes last night, but I was not happy with results that took away the unwanted distortion.
Ironically, the head I had, a H&K Tubemeister 18, might have worked better with this cab, but that's what I traded for this cabinet.
I'm just turning up the gain to get OD, but I just now got the idea to try getting OD with my Tone Hammer preamp.
That will also allow me more EQ options. There's no way to insert if after the preamp stage of the amp though. Ironically again, that was an option with my Tubemeister.
