Eden Forum Disappears

Lol...I've seen that cab. KC is a 3.5 hour drive away. If you look at the pic, 2 of the speakers have been replaced. I'm guessing they are not as good as the Edens that were there.

Now, until recently, there was a decent looking D212XST that looked good and was going for about 490.00 used.

If it was still there after the 1st of the year i was gonna get serious about it ( it's gone now )

You may also notice that there is a D210XST from Williston, VT that looks sharp for 499.99. However when you read the fine print, at least 1 speaker is blown. When I called they told me they have to get 330.00 out of it as is.

There look to be several nice heads ( a WT800 old and new ) and a power amp ( like the one in your rack for the "Tower of Twelves" ).

I do have a question though...do 2 of your single 12" cabs sound similar to the D212XST? I like the idea of the smaller cabs, similar to doing 2 210s instead of 1 410.
My pair of cabs are EV15L in TL606 cabs (EV spec) each at 8 ohms so 4 ohm load.

I bought an Acoustic 8x10 at a pawn for dirt cheap years back, a modern one....but the reviews i read mention a "boominess" and lo and behold, i remove a speaker and look inside the 8x10 and it is completely OPEN! No bracing! So, coming from years of building Hi Fi (from the old McGee radio in KC) i knew about bracing.

So, i spent hours figuring how to brace the cab...wound up using 2x2s tied together front to back and side to side...the cab sounds great now, even with a 5 string on the B, not too bad really....the Eden Metro sounds decent thru this 8x10 but getting back to 2x10s and 4x10s, i find the 8x10 easier to move around due to it having a handle up top and big wheels on the back...it will fit in my Camry back seat! I dont have to lift it....just roll it around....i cannot dead lift at 61 with injuries but i can manage the 8x10 (though it rarely leaves the house)...i cant see used 2x10 and 4x10s being very desirable at the prices i see....seems risky and many are going to be out of date, some were never great in the 1st place...think about all of the high power SS amps in use since the 80's...what you have been thru is a shame and GC hasnt handled it well.

The EV15L (EV15B as well) is a tried and true speaker in a TL606 cab and with them stacked i can sit right in front of them at low volume and 'hear everything'...not true with a 4x10 or 2x10 sitting on the floor..i want speakers at ear level.

Hey @DavidEdenAria, I understand wanting to have speakers close to ear level. I have a DNS-210 that sat on the ground for rehearsals of our Blues/Rock group in our rehearsal studio, so I was about 2-feet away from it but down at my knees. I put it up on a short table to get it up a bit. Not a big deal in our rehearsal studio because it's not that big and it can easily be heard. However the first time I gigged with it I wasn't sure it was going to be enough so I stacked it on top of my DNS-410 although I only had the 210 hooked up. Thought was that I could use my 410 if the 210 wasn't enough and it would just take me a few seconds to unplug the 210 and plug in the 410. I found out quickly that the DNS-210 was more than enough.

It was a weird stage set up in a corner. Where I was standing my speakers were only about 3-feet behind me and close to ear level. At sound check I walked around the perimeter of the club (wireless is great for this!) and with my master set at 10 o'clock (800-watt Eden amp bridged at 800-watts), we had a nice balance throughout the room. When we started playing I stood in front of my stack and it was painful. After that song I shoved it as far to stage left (audience right) as it could go, which wasn't that far. After the second song I moved it up towards the front of the stage a bit to get my ears out of the 60° dispersion cone of the speakers. I could still easily hear it but it was no longer painful. I actually learned from that experience to not get it too close to my ears when playing those levels. I bought an amp stand after that to get it more around waist level by itself.

This was the set-up after sound check but before we started. The tables were removed from the dance floor before we started. I ended up moving the mains on stage left over as far as they would go in an effort to get out from in front of my 210. It was just too dang loud to stand in front of right there. I'll probably never play with both of these cabs hooked up even though it looks really cool.

That makes sense....in my case, it's a small room that is very dead and i am playing at low levels...for mid level volume, a bit off to the side of the cab mostly..i tend to run the master on my Metro dimed but thats with the 65 Epiphone Newport w neck 'mudbucker' (which is a powerful pickup).

I would think the cymbals are more of an issue than the bass volume...some of these drummers are nutso in clubs at times...you know, a too loud snare and cymbals!

Not really in the states.
I also looked at the saved topics from the old forum, but I couldn't find the recone one.
I've got an update on the D210XLT cab. I did get it back with 2 good Eminence BP102s in it. The BP102s have mid scoop between 300 and 1K and then roll off steep at 2k. They really lack the upper mid clarity and definition that the Eden speakers have, at least compared with the D410XLT I have. I'm disappointed.

I did ask for the blown Eminence made for Eden EC1060XL4E speakers, planning on the getting them recone.

Well...long and short it...not possible. I thought you could use the recone kits for the made by Eden EC1060XL. However, after looking at both the eminence and Eden speakers there appeared to be differences. I took pics and sent them to several online recone businesses and they said that the spider and coil for the made by Eminence speaker is different then the made by Eden.

I then did all that I could to get in touch with Eminence and did not get much info about a recone kit for their made for OEM. What I did find out is that unless you are an authorized reseller, you can't purchase a recone kit. Pus if I was a reseller, I would have to buy a lot of 10 recone kits. The I contacted GC, who seems to be an authorized Eminence reseller. They were kin da enough t run that down for me and the response from Eminence is that they don't recone kits for OEM products - only recone kits for their Pro line. Well, poopie!!

Bottom line in my mind, I would avoid any Eden cabs that have made by Eminence for Eden speakers because once they are blown, you are done. You will absolutely want to avoid and Eden cabs with blown made by Eminence for Eden speakers.

With all that said, I am now searching, begging and scrounging for any made by Eden EC1060XL 4 ohm 10" bass speakers. I'll even take blown EC1060XL 4 or 8 ohm since I can get the recone kits for those speakers.

Let me know.

You know I posted some pics from Uriah Duffy (White Snake) on the Eden Forum before it disappeared, of some Eden EC1060XL speakers that he had as back-ups when he was touring with White Snake. He wanted to sell them. He had some from Eden/Montrose (in-house mfr. speakers) and some that were Eden by Eminence. Looks like he had 8Ω, 16Ω, and 32Ω speakers. I don't see any 4 ohm in the pic below which shows what he was selling at the time. If you think you can use any of those, let me know and I'll contact him to see if he still has any he'd like to sell:

Here's a close-up of the back of one of the Eden made in Montrose speakers...couldn't get this pic to show up. I'll try to post it separately.

I can't view the pics. I guess the link is broke or something.

I could use 2 16 ohm. I would just have to rewire the cab so the speakers are in parallel instead of series. Things may sound a bit different but I'm pretty sure it will be better than the Eminence BP102s.

Heck, if the price is reasonable, I'd even snag some of the 8 ohm.

I would prefer the Eden / Montrose over the made by Eminence for Eden, again, for obvious reasons as the made by Eminence have no recone kits available as far as I can tell.

Here's the shot of the back of the Eden EC1060XL that I couldn't get to show up on the first post (post #165).

MMmmm...I feel like Homer Simpson staring at a doughnut. The EC1060XL Edens in my 4X10 don't have that sticker on the back but that does look right. If you have a side shot and a cone shot, that would be wonderful.

Here are some pics I took of the Eden vs Eminence speakers

Annddd...one more thing on my mind. GC has a used 215XLT listed. What can anyone tell me about it?
So far, I 've found that it's 100lb cab. Rated 400W total ( so it won't have the same speaker as the D115XL has ). What's the frequency response? What's SPL rating? When were they made? Are they the made by Eden or made by Eminence speakers? What's your overall impression of the cab.

On my 210XST I hear a vibration at the end of low note hold. I haven't used it in years, since I heard that, but i did tighten all the screws in the cab. Some of the corners were and grill were not tight and I think a couple of the speaker screws were not tight. I cannot see any damage on the speaker.

Does this sound like anything? I need to plug it in but wanted to know if what I did could have fixed it. It made no unusual noises with regular jamming type playing, playing lines and rhythms.

The XST was bought around 2005 or so.

For many years Eden made a D215XL. Notice there is no "T" on the end of it because it didn't have a tweeter. It had a frequency response of 42Hz-250Hz and was configured as a sub-woofer, not a full frequency cabinet. The D215XLT's first showed up in their 2001 catalog because they didn't put out a catalog in 1999 or 2000. The D215XLT came as a tilt-back cabinet with kick-back rollers, bar across the top, plus handles on the side as well.

Yes, you're right the cab weighs 100-lbs. Here's the rest of the info you're looking for:
Speakers - EC-1560F with cast frames
Tweeter - E2700 Cast Bell
Crossover - 3.5KHz @18db
Power Handling - 400-watts rms (both mechanically and thermally)
Frequency Response - 40Hz-14KHz
Sensitivity - 103db @ 1W/1M
Impedance - available in either 8Ω or 4Ω
Dimensions - 23" x 38½" x 18½"

AS an aside the original 115XLT's used Eden Speakers #EC-1560F with cast frames rated at 200-watts rms not 400-watts. The newer 115XLT used a different speaker #EC-1500F (or XL) that is rated at 400-watts with lower sensitivity (100db@1W/1M). Although it would handle more power, it would basically need all of that extra power of 400-watts to equal the SPL of the earlier model at 200-watts. That's because it's starting out with 3db less sensitivity and you have to double the power for each 3db increase in SPL. It's safer to use with higher wattage amps but it's not really going to be any louder that the 200-watt power-handling version.

There was again no catalog in 2009 but in the 2010-2011 catalog that came out in the late fall of 2010, the D115XLT was gone and had been replaced by the D115XST, which might have been a mis-print as the XST version did not show up in subsequent catalogs and there were no speaker numbers given. If it was indeed an XST cab with different speakers then, like all XST cabs, it would sound much different that Eden's XLT's that have a built-in low-mid hump. The XST cabs all have a very flat frequency response.

The last catalog that I have seen from Eden was in 2016. It had the newer "Marshall" speaker numbers in it using numbers SPKR-7005 and SPKR-7006 for the 15" XLT speakers in 4Ω and 8Ω. There were no new speaker numbers nor listings for 15" XST speakers or cabs.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Dan. Your research and info was very helpful. I called the GC where the cab was at and asked about it. I asked them to take a better pick of the back jack panel and it turns out to be a 4 ohm cab. They also never told me whether the speaker were blown or not. Sine I would have wanted the ability to paired up another Eden cab ( either my D410XLT or the D210XLT ) with it, I need the 8 ohm. The cab looked in reasonable shape except for a possible broken roller wheel. And again, even though I asked, GC didn't get around to telling me what condition the speakers are in. If it were an 8 ohm cab, I might have considered it altough it's not as high on my list of Eden wants as a few other cabs ( D210XST, D212XST

Well, the 215XLT cab was a 4 ohm and I would prefer an 8 ohm ( to have the option of being able to pair the unit up with another 8 ohm cab ). I'll let this one pass. I did very recently see another earlier D210XLT ( no Eminence speakers ) that seems to be sound. I got that one coming. I'm also looking at a D410XST ( it's heavy and counter to my original goal of getting a 2X10 XST ). This cab has the Speakon connectors. It also looks like these speakers are the made by Eden as I see a silver edge of the frame. The question I have for you is when did Eden cut over to using the made by Eminence speakers? 2011 / 2012? Thanks for any feedback.

I think it was much earlier than that. Seems to me it was before David left Eden in 2009. Just checked through my catalogs and although Eden didn't make a 2009 catalog, they did make a 2010/2011 catalog and there was no mention of it in there. The earliest reference that I see is in the 2012 catalog. It looks like Eden switched from banana plugs to Speakons connections in 2005. Pictures in 2003 and 2004 both show banana plugs and the 2005 manuals specify the speakon connections. So Speakons were much earlier than Eminence manufacturing of the Eden speakers began. If you can get the serial number of the cab, the date is indicated in the serial number.

That should be a 2004 made in February if I remember correctly or made the second week of January if I mis-remember. I'll double-check with Armin to make sure I don't have it turned around. But presuming it was 2004, that would have been well before Eminence started manufacturing the Eden speakers.

Hey @Bassmann1968 Do I have it right on that serial number or am I confused...wouldn't be the first time.;)

**** An update on my D210XLT cab that had blown made by Eminence for Eden EC1060XL4 speakers in it. As stated before, GC had a repair person in town replace those blown speakers with Eminence BP-102 speakers. They didn't sound right to me, having a rather scooped mid sound and lack of clarity. I also found out that you can't get the made by Eminence EC1060XL4 speakers rebuilt as Eminence does not make recone kits for them.

I finally contacted Eminence through their tech email [email protected] and described my issue with the BP-102s in the Eden D210XL cab and if there was a better speaker from Eminence that I could buy. I actually got a prompt reply. They said that since it was a 2X10 cab and that since I wanted to maintain the 8 ohm impedance, I only had 2 choices - the 4 ohm BP-102 or the 16 ohm Delta-10B as all other 10" bass speakers they make are 8 ohm. Of the two, they said the Delta-10B was the better match to the original made by Eminence for Eden speakers. The 2 characteristics of the original Eden speaker they mentioned that made it somewhat unique was that it was LOUD and articulate. Both the BP-102 and the Delta-10B are stamped steel frames. The BP-102 has a lower resonance and usable response @ 40Hz while the Delta10-B is @ 71Hz. The Delta-10B has a larger magnet ( 56 oz vs 38 oz ). The Delta-10B has higher power handling ( 350W rms vs 200W rms ). The Delta-10B has better sensitivity ( 98 db vs 91.8 db ). BP-102 is $79.00. The Delta -10B is $90.00.

Since I already have the 4 ohm BP-102s in the D210XLT cab, I will eventually be purchasing a pair of Eminence 16 ohm Delta-10Bs and loading the cab with them for comparison. I will need to make at least one extra wire to allow me to wire the speakers in parallel in order to make the cab an 8 ohm impedance.

I'll let you know how things work out.
