Eden Glowplug!!

Reviving an old thread, just picked one up off Reverb after listening to a bunch of sound samples. Surprised how much body is added even with the Warmth and Mix knobs fully CCW with the stock Ruby tube. Much past 9 o'clock turns into wool-city. Is this folks' experience as well or indicative of something wrong?
That's the experience. On the knob it goes from nothing, to a window of magic, then distortion town. Find that window and it'll change your perspective on life.
I had the same experience and then changed the tube to a 5751.
It helped control that extra body before overdrive/distortion, with the threshold past 12:00.
There is a lot of flexibility to be explored considering the combination of gain, frequency and mix, the good thing is that it does not suppress the bass.
I've used both an 12ay7 and 12au7 in it. Both sound similar and give you more warm headroom before breakup. The lower of the two will have to have a bump in volume, but that also gives you some extra wiggle room to fine tune the sound.
As I understand it the power requirements are 15v center positive connector. I have a rechargeable power supply on my board and would like to avoid having to use the wall wart supplied by Eden. What have folks done to address this? I heard the cioks dc7 was a solution, but a pricey one at that. Is there a more cost effective approach perhaps?
The eventide version of the dc7 is a couple of bucks cheaper.
+1 12AY7. I've no experience with respect to this particular pedal, but generally a 12AY7 is a "must try" tube as a sub for 12AX7; especially for bass.

I like it with 12AX7 EHX tube in those clips, same tubes I use for my EHX Black Finger, tube driven optical compressor, that I use with the compression basically dialed completely out of the equation, primarily as tube preamp stage, and my ART Tube MP Project series tube preamp, the latter though running it's tube with starved plate voltage, I think I read somewhere around 70V, versus the proper high 300V plate voltage of the Black Finger, still I actually really like what it does to my tone, but those clips of yours really have me tempted at getting an Eden Glowplug anyway, sounds awesome.

I got one a couple of days ago from Japan off eBay.The price is no longer great. That said I'm liking what I hear so far.I find if you set the warmth no higher than 9:00 you can get warm roundness without the heavy grit.So far I'm not getting much variance from the crossover knob though.
I've been using mine extensively since my band went to in ear monitors and ampless. I love what it does to the feel and tone. I agree 9:00 on the warmth is a great setting and I typically don't go higher than that myself.
Personally I notice a significant difference with the crossover settings. More mid harmonics present as I go up to noon and what I perceive to be some mild distortion beyond the noon setting. I prefer the crossover setting around the 9:00-10:00 setting to get a thicker tone and the mids seem to duck out a bit.
Try listening to your bass with headphones on and play with the glowplug. At first make sure your in the 100% wet setting so you can hear what each setting is doing.

Thanks I'll take your advice. I'm trying to find my way to a warm round sound without the heavy grit.I'm making progress but I can't understand those that say it's not a heavy grit pedal because I get plenty if I want it.And at times even if I don't. Perhaps this is why some experiment with different tubes.
I use mine for a warm round sound. I like my warmth around 9:00, Crossover around 7:00-10:00, Mix around 3:00, and Gain to match the signal when the pedal is bypassed.
I also rolled a number of tubes through mine. I cant remember which one I settled on but switching to a 12AU7 or 12AT7 will give you a little more clean range on the warmth knob.
*Edit - Warning, that pedal is not particularly easy to open up and try different tubes. It's also difficult to get it back together. Make sure you note the orientation of the push button when or if you take it apart.
