Eden - why so expensive?

1600 for 2x10?

i've been in semi-retirement for a while and haven't paid much attention to the technology so i'm just curious if someone could set straight a newbie on what drives the cost of this particular brand?

The Eden WT-amps and David series cabs are American made not made overseas - the price is going to be higher. Dave Norschow the founder of the company is very very picky about the quality of the components he puts is his amps and cabs. IF the parts don't meet his specs. he doesn't use them.

They are some what considered Boutique amps in some circles.

Ditto on what Hawaii Islander said.

Actually if you look at the price of several Pro quality 2x10" combos on the market - many fall into that price range some cost even more.

The Metro is built for professional use. Two independant channels (one tube, one SS) 300, 500, or 750 watts of output into 8, 4, and 2 ohms respectively. You get a lot of amp with a lot of versatility for that price.

$1600 is expensive, but not real bad. I paid $1350 for my Metro new which is 8 years old now. The list price of the amp has only gone up about $250.00 in 9 years - that isn't bad.


Eden has the Nemesis line of combos that are American designed and built over seas - they are cheaper. The Nemesis 320 watt RS210 combo can be had for about $780.00. I have tried a couple of Nemesis combos and have been pretty impressed by them. They don't have all of the extras of the Eden amps, but they have the features that you need, are built well, and sound really good. In some respects I like the Nemesis stuff I have tried better than the Eden stuff.

Don't be afraid to pay for quality. I don't have an Eden so I think my point is gear you like the sound of is worth the price. If you paid $1600 for it but it brought you the tone you want with the joy associated with it then it is worth it. The high price of gear evens out if it works for you and you don't sell it when the honeymoon is over. It should pay for itself and the honeymoon should not end if it works for you. I have always been intrigued with Eden gear myself. Only one local shop carries it anymore though.

Eden's at the top of the list for good reason and I think they've earned the right to charge a premium for their proven products. Now how much of a premium is open for debate! :D I used to think they were on the pricey side but after owning a few of their products I felt like they were fairly priced for the most part. Their sound didn't end up working out with me but the amps I owned were all reliable.

$1600 for a cab would be steep but $1600 ($2100 list) for a 210 combo is actually not that bad.
Just for reference, Epifani's comparable UL-210c 210 combo is on sale for $2200 ($2900 list).
Markbass' SD800 head alone costs more the whole Eden combo.

I have a WT-800 and the xlt 4x10 i've been running for years. On a recent ship gig i was lucky enough to have been provied with a nemisis 210 combo (usually ship amps barely turn on so this was a treat!!!) and I was completely shocked with the tone and volume i was getting out of that little monster!!! Sounded really close to my Eden rig. Its def. an option to explore. Best of luck.

In any business, manufacturers charge what the market will bear. Period. If they weren't selling at $1600, they would drop the price or quit making the item. I see Eden's in no hurry to do either, so they must be selling them.

Yeah, I sometimes wonder about the price. And, even though I think Eden comes across as "arrogant" in some respect, which may also contribute to some people not liking them to begin with, I think they're very particular and do design good products. What Eden does, they do well.

Also, in regard to the Nemesis line. I think, if you can't lay out the money for an Eden, the Nemesis is a great way to go. That's what I did. I have the NA650 and, having come from Ampeg, I found it to not only give me a sound I felt was comparable to my Ampeg, it also allowed me to go for the hi-fi sound. I have said it before and I'll say it again, I think the Nemesis line is Eden's sweet spot for price/quality/features. Yes, they're made in China, but that doesn't mean they're not up for the task. Nemesis is worth a look.

If any of youz guyz have any electronics experience, or engineering experience, open up an Eden and check out the design layout.

Everything inside is modular. Quick disconnects instead of hard-wiring, preamp is a separate PCB from the main board is separate from the output board. Anything goes bad, it's very very quick and cheap to just yank the section that's causing the problems and swap it with new stuff.

It's almost like he designs his amps like a home-built gaming monster computer. Very nice inside.

Not to mention tone from Heaven!

This is a fairly pricey line of amps and cabinets. The short answer is low production levels, highest quality components, terrific designs, great sounding gear.

That combo can be obtained for less money, look around.

The metro is a terrific combo for pro working musician. Unless you have tried one, it's hard to contemplate the amount and quality of the low end that comes from 2 10's

I own two Eden heads, and a couple cabs, at this time. After playing for almost 40 years now, I finally found Eden about 5 years ago. It's the sound I've had in my head for ever, and I finally found it. I doubt I'll ever buy another brand at this point. Every other amp Ive tried out, in the past 5 years hasn't even come close to making it for me. I'm definately stuck on Eden amps. Remember, you can buy any Eden amp head, the WT300 or anyone that you can get a deal on, and if it's not powerfull enough for you, just rack it up with a power amp, and you have whatever wattage Eden amp that you may want. It's heavenly, for sure. Almost makes me pee my pants when I fire up my big rig. Just love the sound that comes out!

$1600 for a top of the line high quality combo amp? That ain't bad at all. You should
stumble on into the strange universe of guitaro bizzaro land where they would spend
that amount easily on some 5 watt hand wired botique made tiny all tube tone box if the
magestrium of tone says they just got to have it.

Occasionally I use one and compare it to a beloved amp I bought in 1975. Often times I am suprised at how close the dollars are. I certainly loved and used my old amp and the sound was what I wanted, the new amp for the "same" money is technologically superior , has many more features and would probably last the same 25+ years of travel and gigging.

Unfortunetly, it would apear as if many bar gigs have kept pace with inflation.
