There's no tube drive or grind available with this preamp. It barely flavors the tone based on my recollection owning one a couple years ago. I can't recall about the compressor.

I only sold mine as it was 2U and 12lbs. That's a lot of beef for just a preamp. And 2 years ago there weren't many lightweight poweramps to pair with it so you ended up with an Ampeg VST sized and weighted case for a pre+power combo.

Interesting that all you people are having your credit card charged. The MF told me they do not charge until the item is physically in stock, so right before shipping. He told me they place a hold on your funds via the card only, not an actual charge.

Are you sure its actually a charge on the card?

I called to order one yesterday. At first they gave me static about the $30 GC coupon, calling it a pricematch, and since GC doesnt stock them, they cant do it. Then they said they could do $169. Then he comes back on saying that the price is a misprint and it costs them twice that, and that it should be $699, and that they can't honor misprints and that other people's orders will be cancelled. So basically I didn't order one for $169 or $199 over the phone. I put in an order online for $199. I don't think they are going to show up.

this is what i got today ...i have a feeling it will be cancelled ...oh yeah on "special order" items rules are different such as being charged asap!

I did a little research on this issue last night. Seems like many, many Eden fans felt quality control went UP when production moved to China.

My version was an 04, QC went down hill around 07,08 I guess & then maybe did get better when it went to China... but $700 for a Chinese made amp is steep. Theres a BIG profit margin there for Eden they aren't passing on to us.

Berhinger can sell their Vamp Pro 2U rackmount preamp for $185 so Eden should be 300-400 tops using the same Chinese labor rate.

Did you call them for an explanation of why?

Although I'd believe that the Vamp pro uses DSP rather than analog signal control; this would indicate to me that there are more components and a greater level of complexity in the Navigator.

I mean, look at all the ins, outs, and knobs! :D

The FBI just showed up at my door inquiring why I was trying to steal this Eden preamp for $199 shipped, no tax. I promptly told them about this thread, and that "wespaul" in Utah was to blame. The FBI office in Utah opens in 13 minutes, so I'd expect them to be visiting the OP soon. :p

4 years ago I was gigging the Nav on a PLX 2402. The total weight was under 35# in a 4 space SKB. I don't really go for 'tube grind' as it often means overly compressed and sucks the punch out of your sound (IMO, YMMV and the other 40 disclaimers). There was definately warmth there however. The basic preamp was extremely clear and very quiet, until I started adding in the Turbo Boost, Enhance and the Tube. Then the noise floor came up To normal, live oriented bass preamp levels.

With all that stuff turned off, into a protools HD rig, it went toe to toe with a 2K mic pre in terms of clarity and noise. My only real complaints with the Nav were the LED's and then number of knobs. It is a fairly complex device for stage use.

I'm sure there's a bunch of lurkers like me who ordered this too. Ordered yesterday, and I haven't got a cancellation notice. My MF account shows it as ordered.

I just put together a rack rig with a Peavey IPR 3000 power amp and an Art Pro Channel pre. This price is too good to pass up for a bass specific pre.

By the way, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting this at this price or better. My state has consumer protection laws against offering items for sale with no intent to sell them and against offering items for sale with no intent to supply reasonable public demand.
