Eden WP100 Navigator for $199?

JOOC, how did they manage to come up with a delayed delivery of 42 days? You would normally expect to see something like "4-6 weeks" or "7-10 business days". Unless, of course, they know when the cargo ship from China is due to dock. I'm serious.

I owned one of these a few years ago. Other than it being LARGE at 2U and deep it had a great sound, and lots of I/O options. Not very tube-like at all, but not hi-fi clean, either. Great EQ, the peak meter lights on the output are useful. Overall a really full featured preamp if you can live with 2U. Really, it's just 1U more than most preamps so it's not like it's 6U or something. But still, that's 1U you could use for a tuner or something else.

Just ordered one via this deal. At this price you can't really say no and can easily sell it for at least your money back.

Note the rep I ordered with said they know the price is a mis-print and will be correcting it shortly. However, they had no problem selling it to me at the lower price. Fun stuff.

When I joined TB, they said there would be no math involved.

FWIW, I just pulled up an E-bay auction and our suspicions are probably confirmed. Take a look at the photo of the chassis backside:

MF may indeed have some US models on hand (slim chance) or they're working with outdated product information most likely.

It does say made in China... we all know what to look for now. I guess we could get our money back if we really complained about being sold goods under false pretenses.

WP-100B... mine from 04 is the same but says Hand Crafted by Eden in the USA on both the front & the back.

Those selling Eden Navigators from China for the USA price should be hung. Its a damn shame. Honestly though the lady said it was the USA model but I have a hard time believing they make some in the USA & some in China & don't clarify that.

Well, I think I count about 25 to 27 of these bought just here on TB. Under ordinary circumstances, with a list price of $1,050, MF probably pays around $500 for these and sells them for $700. So let's say they don't have a special deal on them, and they have to honor 30 sales. At the $200 special price, that's a $300 loss per unit, or $9,000. (Of course, that loss does not consider overhead, so the loss would actually be greater ... maybe 40% greater.)

So is MF's good will worth $9,000 to them? Who knows? There are almost 150,000 bass players here on TB. That boils down to about $.06 a member toward their reputation. Sounds pretty cheap to me. It costs them more than that to send out a single flyer.

I doubt that MF would be able to buy them at $200 per unit, even if they are being discontinued. I'm sure the manufacturing cost is higher than that.

Evergreen Solar in Mass left for China to pay workers $2.50 per hour vs $25 here, so we are getting the Chinese versions. Wall St at its best who buys out a good company & outsources for profits...

The 2U preamp Behringer V Amp Pro sells for $185. Coincidence? They are making money with Chinese labor. Then again theres a lot of people satisfied on the Vamp Pro thread

Well, since we're talking about what is apparently a MIC preamp, let's compare it to other imports and domestics. I believe a Gallien Krueger 2001 RBP (not sure of COA) runs ~$325 so a list price of $300 is certainly in the ballpark.

I'm hoping the Nav works well with my MIC QSC RMX power amp.

He / she was probably using the same info we had available. Come to think of it, other than the auction site and pics I posted, I don't recall seeing any reference suggesting the gear was manufactured anywhere other than the US.

Yeah, most of the time the only info is what we see too.

I have seen stranger things happen with pricing...including the GC multiple coupon stacking last year and the more recent HWY1 basses for well below $500.

No doubt... so we're getting the Chinese versions for $169 which to me is still fine if QC is still there. I'd like to buy American but we all thought we were.

Flip it on CL if you don't like it & make a few dollar profit vs the guys on Ebay selling it for $600 right?

We really can't lose here too badly if at all

Eden does have some nerve to have the product on their website for a MSRP of 1099 & no where state that there are China & USA made products out there.

MIM, Lakland Skyline whatever, just be upfront. If your vendors are confused about the origin something isn't right. I'll stop short of saying deceptive & false pretenses as they don't state anywhere on either site its USA made but it is SHADY.

BTW: The website says MOST are sent with rackmount hardware. Most? Either it is or isn't! This brand new car may or may not have airbags, you'll just have to wait & see!

Anyone who frequented the Eden website for the last couple years would be quite aware of the move of all of Eden's electronics manufacture to China some time ago. Inability to get consistent quality sub-assemblies here in the US was cited as one of the reasons. I waited for 9 months to get a back-ordered Navigator (from Bass Central), and I was under the impression it was one of the last small runs of US-made Navigators in early 2008. If so, there would not be a large number of US-made Navigators still in inventory. All amp and preamp manufacture for at least the last two years has been done in China, even if nobody updated their website pictures of US-made product. Even Eden kept incorrect pictures of US-marked units up until chastised by forum members.
