i hav a volume pedal going into a big muff and just turn down the volume to get an overdriven sound instead of full on fuzz. i use the boss ls-2 line selector and put it in loop a and nothing in loop b with the a + b mix setting so that you get nice bassy bass underneath and dont lose volume

Here is a question for ya Tplyons; English Muff'n or Bass Drive? I realize they are two different beasts but which do think is the better buy, or more usable? Just curious.

so another questen to you:

i always wanted to buy a big muff for some lead parts in our band's songs, the ideal tone for them would be a cliff burton like fuzz sound.

so should I take the Big Muff or if it's available for me the English Muff'n ??? what du you think would be better for me??

As you can hear from the samples, the Big Muff is probably the closest to Cliff's, as he did use the Big Muff. Keep in mind I was using flats, so the treble was pretty tame. I think you could get the tone you're looking for out of a Big Muff, no problem.

Ok I know tplyons was briefly in posession of one of these, having done far too much (lol) research on the subject of overdrive pedals, listened to endless soundclips etc, I feel this may be the pedal for my overdrive needs. So gentlemen, your opinions if you please...

I want something that can go all the way from a subtle drive to full on in your face od (I remember it doing this rather well in tplyons' clips). I also like a bit of tubeyness thrown in with it, I'm thinking this is ideal. Also, what's it like on the bass sucking front, I'm rather fond of the rather bass biased sound of my soloed P pup.

I didn't like it personally. I can't tell you what I didn't like about it exactly...I just felt it wasn't the tone I was after. It sounded pretty cool by itself, but I found it a little muddy in a band setting. Cool pedal though ...to each his own.

What I did find to satisfy my thirst for OD is the Fulltone bass-drive. This pedal is it for me, nice warm tubey OD that can get gritty if needed. It retains the low end wonderfully too. I can't remember how the the muffn was with handling lows...Its been awhile since I had that pedal. Hope this helps.

Hmm, is there any sort of uk distribution for Fulltone? If you can manage, soundclips would be nice too. Problem is there is nowhere local for me to try out anything like the muffin .

I posted my response late last night and misread your post. I was thinking you were talking about the double muff. Which I thought was weird, cause its a fuzz not an OD. (I'm shot) Anyway...I've never used that pedal. I looks awesome though. I'm curious how it sounds w/ bass. The tubes probably make it sound killer. My appologies. I still love the fulltone though.

Lol we all make mistakes, I think I may well get the muff'n, I can get it for £125 shipped which isn't bad for a dual valve pedal imo. It may take me a few weeks to sort out the cash but I think it's gonna be first on the pedal board. Also on list - Agent 00Funk Mk. II, Line 6 DL-4, Dunlop 105 Bass Wah, EHX Electric Mistress Deluxe, Digitech Whammy (currently near the end of the list as it's more of a fun rather than useful pedal). So there's probably gonna be quite a few more threads from me in here in the future but since I have other things to GAS over too I'm planning to slowly build up the pedal board.
