EHX Platform Stereo Compressor

Has anyone heard anything about that one? Seems like an interesting compressor with unusual controls. Wondering how it will perform on bass.

Electro Harmonix is releasing a lot of pedals nowadays. It's hard to keep up.

In that video they show it connected thru a mixing board and say it's great in the studio for recording and mixing. So it must have a lot of headroom to handle line levels and be extremely quiet.

After retiring my EHX Black Finger (tube driven optical compressor) as always on compressor and instead run it with a minimum slow attack compression as mainly always on tube preamp at the breakup point, for some light OD when I dig in, I might have to have a serious look at this as a possible new compressor, if I chose to get a compressor again that is.

Edit: Bah! Ought to learn not to act quite as impulsive, and at least judge the pedal on more than it's cover. While this pedal no doubt is able to do some great and useful tricks, it's not quite what I imagined when I first saw the cover and the name of the controls.
Also it was cooler in brown as it appeared in the thumbnail of the video than it's real blue color.
For now I think I just go with the light compression my Black Finger offers me in it's new main function, and use my money on something that woulds be more useful for me.

I'm interested as well to see what @bongomania thinks of this. At first glance, it looks interesting and the drive, knee and limiter features make it intriguing. I for one would have like to see something else instead of the swell function (mix, band...whatever), but, with EHX, we're used to see unusual stuff on the usual pedals... They mention in the video that it works well with bass, woulda been nice to see and hear it. Also, is it just me or I'm seeing a departure from the oft-goofy graphics ? Goofy's good, but this pedal looks... serious.

I agree with the graphics. I prefer this style to the things they put out recently.
Also agree that a dry/wet control would have been a more useful function than the swell (wanna try the cello setting though lol)

Just saw the pedal in an ad this morning and I'm intrigued. Looks a lot more feature packed than the Corset. I too look forward to reviews.

That sure is a sweet porpoise!

Pretty sure you'll be happy with the result too, I know I am at least.

And it's even a pretty cheap solution compared to most alternatives.

Eventual maybe stick an EQ pedal of your choice afterwards, and you got all the tonal options as any preamp and even customized to your needs.

I am not a pedal fan, but that is pretty cool. I'd love to hear the cello effect on a bass.

Well, I haven't experienced any unwanted noise issues from my unit, and general reports on these units vary from no noise issues at all over a little noisy to really noisy, so guess it's a quality control issue from EHX's side.

Here's a professional who uses it as an always on tube preamp as well, though he too report he got some minor noise issues with the unit, though it's something he says he is willing to live with given the great tone it gives him (sadly no sound clips):

Yes I'm familiar with Amos and just picked up Tesseracts new album. Pretty cool stuff. A little heavier than I'm used to but Amos gets a great tone throughout.
