Eko was the first bass I ever played :D

That was my second Bass (the first was some Pawn Shop POS) I traded it straight across for a '62 P Bass !!

If you want to hear Les Claypool's work with the EKO, check out his first solo album Les Claypool an the Holy Mackerel Highball with the Devil. He uses it on most of the tracks. Also on Sausage Riddles are Abound Tonight. He didn't use it with Primus that much. Toys go Winding Down and maybe a couple other tracks. De Anza Jig is done with a Bass Banjo (same instrument for original South Park Theme).

Eko produced most of their Model 995 Violin basses between 1967-69. There's no specific way of dating them.

TD

I had the Model 995 Violin bass in 1969. I played it for about three years, and never had a problem with it. Nylon Tapewound strings were crude back then, but they sounded good on the EKO. I'd love to run across the Model 995 Violin bass again.

I have a 1975(?) kiwi I picked up for £15 years ago, the pots need replaced but there is no back cavity. Through the pickup cavities I assume.

After reading the praise I think I will have to fix it up and give it a whirl but the neck is so slim, I play a pbass mainly and I find a jazz neck very thin but this neck and string spacing is something else.

To some this maybe heresy, but I've just put on some nickel rounds on my EKO violin bass.

I tune down to Eb so I couldn't get this bass to intonate with medium scale roto flats...

With rounds you still get those deep lows but with a warm, zinging highs. This bass is singing!!

The pic is a close up of the EKO bridge. You can see the adjustable string saddles with string grooves.

I came across an Eko Florentine Bass, model no 960, in amazing condition this spring.
Funny thing is, it's natural/blonde and in all my googling hours I haven't seen another
one like it.View attachment 471083 View attachment 471084

Love that bass! There is a super cool red-burst one like it on page 2 of this thread. Gotta win the best pick-guard award!
