Envelope filter/follower addict support group

So I come to find out that both me, and my Funky Puppy were going through Customs at LAX on October 2. Unfortunately we were not on the same journey, so I had to wait on the USPS to finish the trip.
I've not had the pleasure of playing through any Chunk Systems gear, but based on this thread and some other internetting, the Funky Puppy seems to fit the bill.
I have never experienced a filter like this one. The response, range, and tone are pretty unusual in my experience. I'm smitten. It's possible to find settings that cause the filter to open and close in a very non- linear fashion. Squelch yields a similar result to Resonance on other devices, but also has a notably different character than resonance. There is much more deep diving to be done. The Fuzz is a solid offering that pairs extremely well with the filter, and the envelope link plays a huge role. What a cool, fun, musical device, and the Hammered White finish is a nice bonus.

You reversed my GAS! I was thinking about picking one of these up, but really thought it would be just meh. I was on the fence, now I'm not!!!
I'm reserving my judgement until I can spend more than 10 minutes with it, but that was enough time to know I'll probably need an expression pedal to really dig in to this one. Locally available options seem to be limited, but I don't know nuthin bout expressin no pedals

Okay, this is dangerous.

Envelope filters and phasers ... cool! But then I found envelope flangers (NEED!!), envelope chorus, and envelope vibrato?

And then I find out there are pedals that will turn pretty much anything with a CV/expression pedal input into an envelope type pedal?

Please have mercy on me and my bank account!

I am REALLY looking FWD to trying the envelope flanger on the Bubbletron!

Haven't had much time to play over the past couple of months, but that hasn't stopped me from foolishly digging in on pedal purchasing. I have a problem. I need help.

Anyway, I've recently picked up a Future Impact v1, an EHX Blurst, and, thanks to offloading some Broughton dirt boxes I didn't take to, I've got an Agent 00Funk Mark II en route. The Blurst is meh so far, not what I expected, but I can probably get back what I paid for it so not a total loss. Secrets might yet abound there, who knows? The art is sick enough. The Future Impact is nuts and has completely flipped my opinion on trying the Source Audio C4, so now I'm thinking about cancelling my Internet subscription to save myself. I'm barely even using the FI as anything but an envelope filter right now, but it's got some FUNKY ones. I wish it had an FX loop, but from what I'm reading, it sounds like the C4 might? I gotta call AT&T...
The FI is pretty amazing especially when you really delve into the near limitless possibilities of the synth electronics in the deceptively simple looking box offereing a treasure trove of effects. IIRC You can update your v1 to v3 that had better tracking and a bit more resolution. I've had mine for a while and am still figuring some stuff out and discovering new potential. One downside is you will need some sort of midi interface to connect to a computer for editing but I have found that an inexpensive usb to midi works fine.

The C4 is just as cool but in a different track, it is possible to route the C4 so that it has an effect loop among other possibilities.

It shipped updated to 3.61, luckily, and I'm the type of person to keep an audio interface plugged up even if it's just a more convenient headphones out, so my bases are covered there. At this point in my life, I have the patience to sit down and figure out the editor, it's just a matter of finding the time. The user database of presets is pretty sick tho, even if they do seem really hung up on nailing down a handful of very specific sounds.

I understand why so many are trying to emulate those popular sounds for cover bands.
Luckily I have the freedom to create my own sounds which may be a nod to the original but will always spin in my own nutty orbit.

Here's a quick bubbletron dynamic phaser demo! Yamaha BB435, P Bass pickup only. Bubbletron settings were - Rate at 9 o'clock (so the constant phaser rate is pretty slow), Depth at 3 o'clock, and Sensitivity at about 11.

Dude! Funky AF! I dig it, can't wait to get mine!

Cool! Is that the phaser part of the pedal? How does the filter part sound? Can't find any bass demos. I am thinking of ordering it for guitar, for the Zappa sound.

Yup that's the phaser setting. The filter works fine on bass, but I personally am not sure how I'd use it. It's maybe a bit subtle on bass - the effect definitely comes across better on guitar.

The flanger setting is super fun on guitar, you can get reasonably close to the "Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar" style solo tones. The Alexander Dynaflanger pedal is also worth a look, I think that one gets even closer, and you have more control over the effect. It also does the random filter sound from "Ship Ahoy". I've heard the Source Audio Artifact also does a good job with these sounds. There is a great thread on TGP with lots of good info on these Zappa tones

I'm intrigued by using the flanger side on bass. Being a child of the 80's, flagers were everywhere. If the Bubbletron is too subtle, I see there are a few other options ...

Funky Puppy, love that name! 😀
Can’t find any videos on the pedal?
There is a link to some sound samples on post #429, previous page of this thread.

The Bubbletron is all about phasing and flanging, nothing subtle about it. The filter side never gets any use from me.

Also, in the spirit of giving pedals that I've tried before another shot, I have an EHX Tube Zipper inbound ... I needed a little retail therapy tbh :-)

The Tube Zipper has been high on my list for a long time, would love to hear some thoughts/samples on that one to maybe give me the final nudge of "yea or nay" on needing to try one!

Curious as to which pedals you found!

Have you ever tried the Chase Bliss Billy Strings Wombtone? I snagged one when they released, pretty interesting "EnveloPhaser" (Chase Bliss' label for it). 👍

5sg.
