Envelope filter/follower addict support group

I spent ages tracking down a Pigtronix Bass Envelope Phaser and when I finally got one, I ended up preferring the model on the Spectrum/C4. I found the Spectrum/C4 sounded not only really similar but was also far more versatile.

I ended up selling the Pigtronix shortly after getting it. 😊
Is the exact same reason I got rid of mine. Along with others I felt was redundant.

Good to know! I still may try to find one, but this eases the GAS for sure. The Spectrum does sound awesome, so good to know I'm not missing out on much.

Every so often the Musician's Friend (or maybe Guitar Center?) has it on their deal of the day. May be worth signing up for.
I think they have deals for the newer Moon Pool Tremvelope Phaser, but on that I believe the envelope changes the phaser speed, instead of it's sweep position like the older Bass Envelope Phaser. Seems like a cool pedal, but not exactly what I'm looking for.

In your consideration of an envelope phaser, don’t forget the Keeley Bubbletron.
I had one! I used it more on guitar, but I remember liking the envelope phaser on bass.

I think I got rid of it because at the time I was mostly using it for the dynaflanger effect on guitar. But then I got a Alexander Dynaflanger pedal which does an even better version of that effect. Wish I didn't sell it though, it was a great pedal.

EDIT: .... And I accidentally just ordered another bubbletron

The EP-1 was the original inspiration for the phaser settings on old Soundblox BEF. Those went into the BEF Pro, then Manta, and then finally Spectrum.

Finally got a chance to do some recordings of the Funky Puppy to compare it to the OG Chunk Systems pedals. My takeaway? The Funky Puppy does an outstanding job of copping the original, and may even be a little more responsive. The knob settings/positions aren't exactly the same - as you can see in the pics, slight differences in position to get the same tone, but that's 100% a non factor/issue/concern for me. If anything, I think the FP has a little more top end sizzle than the OG, but the OG is a little more full, but side to side I can't tell the difference (live at least).

The Really Good Pedal Co. did a phenomenal job, I'm quite happy with it!

Recording using my Fodera YYS, thru iD14 USB interface, directly into Audacity, not other filters or effects.

For fun, on the second "Funky Puppy vs Chunk Systems" wav, I switched back and forth between - see if you can tell which one is which!

Haven't had much time to play over the past couple of months, but that hasn't stopped me from foolishly digging in on pedal purchasing. I have a problem. I need help.

Anyway, I've recently picked up a Future Impact v1, an EHX Blurst, and, thanks to offloading some Broughton dirt boxes I didn't take to, I've got an Agent 00Funk Mark II en route. The Blurst is meh so far, not what I expected, but I can probably get back what I paid for it so not a total loss. Secrets might yet abound there, who knows? The art is sick enough. The Future Impact is nuts and has completely flipped my opinion on trying the Source Audio C4, so now I'm thinking about cancelling my Internet subscription to save myself. I'm barely even using the FI as anything but an envelope filter right now, but it's got some FUNKY ones. I wish it had an FX loop, but from what I'm reading, it sounds like the C4 might? I gotta call AT&T...

Bubbletron is here! It's great, better on bass than I remembered for sure. So far I think I could recreate it on the Spectrum - I may take a stab at that later. It's super funky though, and easy to dial in which is always appreciated. It also responds real nice with my Digitech Ricochet in front!

Might record a little jam with it if anyone is interested in some sound samples.

At this point envelope "anything" seems to be pretty cool

fwiw many many years ago when I was talking about analog synthesizer programming with a friend he came up with this nugget of wisdom:
The trick to getting realistic -- or at least compelling -- bass sounds out of a synthesizer is to employ envelope-controlled pulse width modulation.
As a synth programmer I found that tidbit handy...but as a bass player, I've now spent 40-something years trying to figure out what's the closest effect available in a stompbox for emulating pulse width modulation!
