I knew that after the "Accuswitch" debacle, no other manufacturer would try to introduce something like that without doing something that actually worked, so I was interested to see what Epifani had done.
There is one other legitimate way to do it but it involves a transformer that would need to be quite large (and heavy), which would defeat the purpose of using Neo drivers.

nobody thought a 12" speaker would work. everybody thought the neodymium sound wasnt "right". and who the heck needs two channels from a bass amp?! whaddya know, everybody in the industry only ended up only following suit.

Anyway, looks like custom drivers making this truly viable have arrived, so it's moot anyway thankfully.
Ken, saw your Markbass head. Can someone direct me to a thread discussing F1 vs. LMII? They appear superficially similar except for size/weight. Confused. Carry on.

Sorry to question you, but are you saying that Epifani was the first to implement 12" speakers, NEO speakers and multi-channel heads into bass gear? I'm not saying you're wrong because I have no idea...but I seem to remember reading something on the Markbass site claiming that Marco was the first to use NEOs in bass cabs.
I'm just a curious observer.

Got it. I can't say one way or the other since I haven't really followed the company much in the past. I can say they make some sweet cabs, though! (duh)

I just spoke to Glenn Kawamoto from Austin Bass Traders and he checked out and played the new Epi cabs at NAMM. He says they sound really nice . He said the 112 was one of his favorites. He tried the 4/8 ohm switch and said he did notice a definite change in volume from the cab so I'm guessing it works. He also checked out the TecAmp cabs and said the S-212 was a killer cab for it's size and is bringing some of them in. I love my UL410 but the TecAmp cabs really spark my interest. More gas I guess.

That's cool man. Which 112 was it? Curious seeing what they've doing and trying to accomplish. Hope they can keep the ship moving on the oars.
It's a line of cabs called the DIST series I think. They're different from the UL and PS series cabs.
I'm have both the 410UL and the s212, and I will back up what Glenn says about the s212... probably the best volume/tone/size/weight ratio cab I've ever owned. It won't quite match the 410UL in overall low end force and volume (I've never heard any 212 or 2 x 112 that could), but it will bury ANY 210, and it's about the size of most 210's, and actually lighter. I would describe it as a smaller, lighter, punchier, more even 310UL. FYI!
