Epifani Club! I've seen the "light"!

That's going to be interesting. Everyone's wondering if they got 'taken' just like the guy from Accugroove (or whatever happened with that disaster), or if they truly have 'dual voice coil' speakers, which is, from what I understand, the only way to do this.
More info to follow on this for sure, but I can at least say this. At least it's not the stupid "the switch" trick. We can at least put that behind us.

You tease!!! Hit me with some details!!! And yeah, I was hoping beyond hope that this wasn't an "Episwitch"...

On the plus side I ran my 502/110/112 set up this weekend with the Sadowsky. What a wonderful sounding, easy to move set up as well as more than enough volume to cover the gig which was a big wine and cheese festival in my city. My UL310 and Markbass F1 are always around as back up but not getting a lot of love. Nice to have such gret choices though.

I fully agree with all of Ken's comments (BTW I have a stack of the older, lighter UL2 cabs and love it). The fact that we can post -ve as well as positive comments is what makes this forum so much more valuable to me than the mags, who understandably walk on eggshells to preserve ad revenue. Ken has repeated some comments..... IMO because more than one occasion has arisen in which they are relevant. Thus far my biggest disappointment with Epi has been the delay in correcting the cab weights on their site in conjunction with the weight gain itself.

Sorry, I stand by my comments. I gave it a lot of thought before I reluctantly posted. Agree to disagree.
It's cool, and I respect you, but unfortunately you'll also have to add me to the disagree list. Epifani is going to have to kinda' reprove themselves to me moving forward... but I do hope they do. I still love the stuff I currently have of theirs, which is substantial.

......................On many of the questions/concerns this week, including the "switch" issue. I think it will provide some relief to some of the "stress" around here.................

I will also get some details on marketing, and product placement targeting for the different lines..................;)

I did confirm with Nick that they are using dual voice coils in each driver to achieve the 4-ohm/8-ohm switching. Without having ripped one apart and tested it, it certainly seems like an impressive feat taken at face value. The DIST cabs did sound very good, that's for sure. I look forward to giving them a full review, but again, not having confirmed anything but also not having any reason to doubt Nick, I'd say that the DIST line seems very, very promising.

Tom.

Mm...must....know.......h..how...th..this....w..w..works...............p..please no....ac........ac.......accuswitch again...............aaaarrrghhhhh.....

At this point, I would have to go with the DIST switch as being a truly viable way to switch between 4-ohm and 8-ohm operation.

Tom.

If that's so, then this is 'moderately cool'. It's interesting in that I always dreamed of such a switch. Now, with so many heads having huge power at 8 ohms, and running at two ohms with no problem, they seem a bit behind the curve with this. Still, that dual voice coil deal (which i understand is the only way to legitimately do this) is pretty cool.

Yes, it's true that heads have come a long way with regard to either handling more difficult loads (2-ohm, 2.67-ohm, etc.) or putting out more power into an 8-ohm load, but I can see a lot of advantages to this setup. If you have a 4-ohm min head, you can use either one or two cabs and still get full power. That's pretty cool, in my book (if legit, which again, I have no reason to doubt at this point).

+1 Dual voice coils should be totally legit. Cool!

Sorry, I stand by my comments. I gave it a lot of thought before I reluctantly posted. Agree to disagree.

Just to be clear, my comments concerning Lakland were 100% positive. That marketing and product strategy has worked wonderfully for both Dan and the Lakland brand, and the bass consumer.

Since you interpreted that very positive comment as negative, maybe I'm not being as negative on the Epi brand as you think I am:smug: I do find their strategy and execution over the past few years quite strange. That's IMO, and around NAMM time I find that topic quite interesting, since NAMM is all about marketing and new product strategy (which is my business).

Sorry if you feel I'm hammering them. While I no longer recommend their current product line, I still use and enjoy my older UL cabs a lot.

"And, after seeing that clip, as a marketing professional in my day job, what a disaster for a brand image to make your very low cost line look exactly the same as your high end line, and sell them through the same channels. I guess, maybe, they are heading down the path that Lakland did (i.e., since they were going under selling just the expensive US stuff, Dan did everything he could to convince people that the Skylines were 'just as good'... to the point of hanging them together of the same retailer walls) in order to push the quality of the lower end stuff at the expense of the low volume and 'high cost to produce' US stuff.

This could be a good move for their bottom line, or a disaster (i.e., if the low end doesn't catch on in a big way, the 'damage' to their boutique brand will still happen)." Then you stated that marketing approach makes you cringe. And that is 100% positive?

I don't see this comment as 100% positive in any way. It is questioning Lakland and Epifani's marketing decision.

Ken, along with your other jabs at Epifani for the last months what pushed me over the edge was posting so much negative spiel in a thread that started as an Epifani Club sign up thread.

Reminiscent of the Markbass lovers jumping in to Eden club threads to bash along with the Genz Benz people doing the same. It just rubs me the wrong way. But I'm over it. I need to be less thin skinned.

I love my S1 cabs, but I am not thrilled with how Epifani is misleading conusmers by not updating their website. Those weights are at least 6 months old and not changing them to the current weights is downright negligent. They need to do better than that.

Having said that I ordered a PS-112 so while I may disagree with some of their marketing practices I still like their cabs.

 Huh? My comments on Lakland come right out of the strategy Dan Lakin discussed in his interview in Fortune. If Lakland hadn't done that move toward the Skyline emphasis, they would no longer be in business, according to Dan himself. That was a very good move, and I have nothing but positive feelings for that brand, the products, the strategy, and the people running the company.

The 'cringe' part is that it is VERY high risk. It worked wonderfully for Lakland. My point was, if it doesn't work, it's a brand and company killer. It's a risky proposition (i.e., to move from a small volume, hand made boutique brand to a mass marketed mainstream brand). That was my only point.

No big deal. I again continue to like my older Epifani cabs a lot.
