Epifani Club! I've seen the "light"!

It does seem like a bit of a joke. Did we get taken here? I sure did! It was just serious enough that I guess it could actually be 'real'.

Give me a chance here:help:..................I just took over delegating membership numbers a few weeks ago because the originator was too busy to keep up with it.

I am also trying to get TB'ers some inside information, and progress this "Club" to contain some more in depth information for Epifani lovers......................You will see this information come to fruition at NAMM this week!:D

No problem.. thanks for keeping us in the loop. When that poster suggested it might be a prank, I actually thought it might be:D Now that we know it's real, I don't know what to think:eek:

Epifunky!!! Talk about ignoring one of the basic 'Marketing 101' rules... NEVER denigrate or cheapen the primary brand name when doing a line extension. Dear god! The switch thing... well......!

Those DIST cabinets have me G.A.S.sing...................Choices for keeping my 4 ohm heads at full power makes transporting a lot easier! Switchable 4 or 8 Ohms, gives much needed versatility!:hyper:

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. Look up the Accuswitch thread...but DON'T reply to it and bring it back up....with that said, I can't imagine another company releasing something similar unless it really worked.....it can't happen twice can it?????

Big +1

Slight caveat: I had the Quest II preamp with a power amp, but I figure that's pretty darn close to a 502/902 tone, if not identical for all intents and purposes anyway...

Personally, the Epi amp tone didn't work for me more often than it did, and I was constantly frustrated by the lack of ability to "fix" it.

In short, love their cabs, hate their amps. :)

IMHO of course, so you 502/902 fans, put the guns away. :)

Vic, I can't believe it, but this is the first time I can truly say I could not disagree with you more. I too play in ballrooms that are typically nightmares; marble floors, high ceilings hard surfaces everywhere, yet, I can dial in a tremendous tone. I play in an 11 piece band with 3 horns, 4 singers, and a full rhythm section, and I cut through the mix in spades. My soundman echoes my sentiment. He has toured with national acts and says that my rig (UL 902c, UL 310 or 410 or 112, and various combinations of the above) is the best he has every heard. Of course this is all subjective, but you and Kjung are highly respected on the thread and when you make comments like you have, it carries a lot of weight, and in this case I don't think is justified. Of course this thread is so much fun because it allows each of us to voice our opinions without fear of persecution. So keep it coming, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents to say the 502 and 902 heads are incredible in any environment; and when they don't perform well, you can include just about any amp out there, because the environment does not lend itself to good tone acoustically.

Hey, if it works for you, it works for you:D It's a fine head in general, and again my 'love/hate' relationship with that head had plenty of love in it on many occasions. I again feel that if they put their effort into more powerful and more overlapping EQ controls on a single channel, versus the very limited control (IMO) on each of two channels, they might have had a real winner. As it stands, my guess is they haven't sold many of these, and they are out of most players price range anyway, so kind of a moot point:smug:

Virgil, good to see you chime in on the subject! Excellent post....which is a great addition to the many other excellent posts preceding it.

I've been mulling this over, both in an effort to remember when I've encountered sonic issues, and ultimately in hopes of eliminating them. In my case, the common variable, aside from "difficult" rooms, seems to overall volume. When the band is cookin', the issue is at worst mitigated and at best simply gone. However, at lower volumes it can become downright frustrating. FWIW, on most of my gigs I'm not reinforced, so the rig represents the sound of the bass for the stage as well as the entire room. I've yet to encounter any problems in larger rooms where there is reinforcement.

Ken, for better or worse, I believe you're correct - neither the 502 or 902 are leaving music stores in large numbers. My local shop - bass nirvana for the SF bay area - has one of each that have been sitting at blowout prices for months. And on a deja' vu type of tangent, I'm getting the same response from TecAmp (or at least the U.S. distributor) that I got from Epifani when I was originally in the market. Nada, zilch, niente, nothing. :D

Nonetheless, I wouldn't say the point is moot. There are a number of us who are heavily invested in finding the "right" sound, coupled with durability, flexibility, and any number of other considerations...i.e. weight & portability. It's great discussion in threads like this that are really helpful for everyone in that category. So - thanks to all for sharing your real world experiences!

+1 I sent you a PM on the TecAmp stuff so we don't derail.

I actually think Vic put my experience with the 502 the best... there wasn't enough EQ power and range for me to 'dial out what I didn't like' (that strong mid mid voicing in the amp.. I don't hear these amps as 'scooped' per se, just more of a 'strange' mid response... present, but not punchy or quick... hard to describe. It's almost like a 'W' frequency voicing, with lot's of deep lows, not much low mid punch, lot's of mid mids, not much upper mid, lots of low treble, not much sparkle.), and then also dial in what I did like (a bit of upper mid cut and a bit of upper bass/lower mid punch). With some other amps I've used and currently own, the 'flat' tone really does seem 'flat' (or at least as even as you would need if for the bass guitar) opening up even the limited EQ on some of these amps to tweak and/or control the room acoustics.

Hard to put into words, but it seems you know what I mean. And again, to say something positive... when the room lines up with that full Epi rig, it is a wonder and a beauty to behold:bassist: Those situations were just a little too 'far and few in-between' for me personally, form my particular tone goal, IMO, IME, IMHO, etc.:)

VIRGIL! Dude yer makin' me blush over here! :D

Seriously, no need for all the concern. Like Ken says, if it works for you, fair enough... seriously.

For this exact reason, I try very hard to qualify my comments with a lot of IMHO's, and "for me", and such, an at least try to somewhat regularly post something about my personal tonal prefs and playing style (if you can call it that *cough* ;)). Hopefully I don't do it too much, and seem sarcastic. I really do mean it.

You nailed it when you said it's very subjective. Heck, there's lots of stuff I don't get along with that's out there kickin' butt better than I can any day of the week and twice on Sundays, and I'm fully aware of that. At least for me, again, I really mean it when I say IMHO. I ain't "all that". :)
