Epifani UL 410 opinions please

So, am I correct in that the "Series 1" would be not labeled as such? In other words, it was just a UL-410 until Series 2 came along? I am going his way Thursday and will probably pick it up. But I'm just curious.

At that price I would buy it even if I had to make repairs. I've got two Epifani Cabs, although neither is a 410.
I have an older 210 cabinet from the early days of Epifani. I bought it from my first bass instructor, who used it for practice & small gigs for years and then had Epifani re-cone it with newer drivers.
Also have a UL2-310 that I picked up from TB classifieds. I needed more power, more driver area for when we set up on our annual parade float, but space is a concern both at the church and on the float; so I didn't want to go for a 410.
I have run the 210 with an older Hartke HA3500 head, an Ampeg SVTIII-Pro, and a couple of GK MB series heads. My preference now is the GK.
Tone wise my 210 is very similar to my 310.
I generally have my 310 paired with a GK MB800, so I've got a potential of around 550-600 watts to feed it with. With this setup I do not lack for power in any regard.

What others have said previously about the tone is true and they are generally light cabinets that sound very good. My UL2-310 is actually considerably lighter than my 210 Epifani cab; and both cab's will handle the low B string very well and sound good doing it (as long as your low B sounds good).

There are differences, but they're not huge.

I had a 4 ohm UL1 410. Is this UL410 a 4 ohm or 8 ohm version?
Also, is it a UL1 or UL2? If it just says UL 410, it is a UL1 410.

There is a difference in weight and tone between UL and UL2.

I would say that this cabinet would kick ass with a Walkabout head. The Walkabout is warm and fat (my subjective, non-technical terms) while the UL410 should be tight, defined, and clear (if it's anything like my UL310). You'd be able to get a big, fat tone without losing definition.

Thanks for sharing. I'm looking at about half that price so I might just have to gamble it.

Any thoughts on that first version?

Dude,

Just buy the cab as long as it sounds good. For the price you're paying, you could easily flip it if you don't like it.

The series 1 UL cabinets have a slight mid bump. The series 2 cabs are flatter which makes them sound more bottom heavy. I would not say that they are scooped though. I'm not sure how you tell the difference between the two lines of cabinets. But I think the series 2 and 3 cabs have that indicated on the grill logo.

My S1 serial tag near the jacks is labeled T410UL I believe. The front side grille tag says Ultralight

I don't have a UL-410 but I have a UL2-310. The cab is nothing short of fantastic. It has a definite baked-in tone but it makes everything sound freakin' killer. It has a mid-scoop for that modern gospel/jazz bass kind of tone. The cab is most definitely not a flat cab. I was under the impression they are fairly similar lines just the UL2's are lighter due to the neo drivers. I think they are into UL3 for some time now, back to ceramic. I absolutely love my Epifani and will probably never get rid of it. The customer service is really hit or miss, as this thread has shown. My own experience wasn't really great or terrible but it was really cool talking to Nick. After doing so I realized I said the name wrong. The name is pronounced ep-a-fawn-ee.

I tried it side by side with an Eden 410, and the Epifani had a more mid forward sound that was noticeably louder. I got mine right when the UL2's first came out, so it weighs in around 53 lbs, but shortly after, the wood they used changed and the cab gained 10 lbs.

I'm surprised it was louder than the Eden 410, especially if it was a D410xlt. They can get screaming loud.

During that compare, which was in a store, I initially just swapped the speaker cable from one cab to the other without any changes to the amp. I suppose that the Epifani had higher sensitivity and more mids that gave me that impression. My decision was based mostly on weight: 90 something vs 53 lbs. I do like the Eden sound, and right after this purchase, Eden put neo speakers in the 410 that put the weight around 75 lbs.

Eden's older designs like the D410xlt are really heavy compared to the neo cabs for sure. And they aren't quite as hi-fi or studio reference quality. But they do sit in a live mix really well. One of the best bass tones I even heard was a Mesa Boogie 400+ through an Eden 410xlt.

All that being said, I still love my series 1 Epi UL310.
