Epiphone Club

Where can I find a resource to decode the serial number on my Thunderbird bass? Not sure if the first 2 numbers are the year or the first is a factory code.

Try these, they should help. I think the third one is the one I've used most often.

Hello, fellow Epiphoners (I'll work on it)!

I recently (yesterday) scored a great deal on an Epiphone bass for which I've been looking for quite some time.

An Epiphone Rock Bass/Power Bass. It was built to be the competition to Fender's "Jazz" bass, without the mis-shapen body.

The person from which I bought it was a phenomenal guy and sent me a video of him, playing the bass before I bought (I've been leery of Reverb sellers for quite some time).

He gave me permission to post that video here. So, here goes:

Apologies if this is a well-worn topic (my searching skills regularly fail me).

I have a black Epiphone EB0 from 2008; it's pretty much spotless. Very nice - so nice I don't want to start drilling holes in it. But with my rotund shape and the neck strap lug placement the body tilts downward and it's not easy to play standing; I can't see what I'm doing when I need to.

Has anyone solved this problem without permanent modifications - maybe something similar to the acoustic guitar string at the headstock end of the neck but heavier-duty, or some other fix?

I have the same problem. I usually just tuck the lower end of my bass under the strap to help tilt it back.

We are all Rich Rosen, yet each individual model line gets it own name, such as O'Neal, or Sigfrieddotter. Same with the various models of Firebirds, Thunderbirds, Icebirds, and Smokebirds.

Nah they froze into Icebirds because they forgot to migrate south this year. They were still hung up on the original concept of global warning.

I play with the strap adjusted shorter, so the bass sits higher, and actually tilts upward where I can see it better. I don't have any pictures of me playing because I really don't want to see what it looks like. :D

Just tried shortening the strap. Less comfortable on the right arm, but it works well enough for me. I looked in the mirror, and I do see what you mean.
Thanks.

Are current EB0s lighter than my 14 year old example?

Mines a 2001 made in Korea epi eb0 weighs about 8.5 lbs. But it's modded (supertone bridge, reissue guild bisonic on neck, novak h22 middleish, varitone instead of tone knob). Stock would be a hair lighter. My eastwood jetsons jr just a hair heavier at 8.8.

Don't know know what newer made in China ones weigh.

Question for the Embassy owners. I just picked one up. Great sound and super comfortable to play.

One question though, when turning the blend knob all the way towards the bridge it cuts out. Is this normal wiring?

i’ve never seen a blend knob do that. It sounds to me like a defective pot. I assume it’s definitely the blend knob, not volume.
