Episode 88: S/D thread - No Hope

HM-2 looks awesome!

I think I need a solid state amp. My VB2 just isn't hitting the lows. Or I need to get back on the 15's and dump the 810.
My roomates bass player has been using my set up. His GK 700rb is over there. I should hook it up and see how it sounds before I make any rash decisions.
The Charvel does sound pretty good though :) I'm pretty happy with that purchase. The G string is pretty quiet. Needs fresh strings and a set up for sure.

I feel you on the Torche man. I went back and listened to all their stuff last year. It's way awesome! Check out the song Harmonslaught, too.

I've seen The Well live a few times. Good stuff.

Could be the bass, unless you know its low enough from other amps. The Ibanez Roadstar P bass I had's tone was really weird to my ears... alot of high end that just turned to weird middy mush with the tone rolled off. I just couldnt coax any tight low end out of it.

My Carvin J (when it was still active) had the same problem; I liked that bass until I played a Fender passive J in my rig and it had a tight low bass on tap that the Carvin just couldnt touch, and it drove me to rewire the whole thing with new passive J pickups.

Just a thought before you switch out a whole rig

Does the VB2 have a presence and resonance knob?

I first noticed it when I got the 810 a few years ago. This Laney 810 has killer mids, but the bottom end isn't doing it.
My six string Ibby sounds ok. P basses with the Demon sound great. I cranked up the resonance last night and tweaked the hell out of the amp. It's better but something is lacking. Nice legs but no a$$.
I have been missing 15s since I got the cab. I'm sure the amp is about due for tubes soon anyway.
But I will spend some time screwing around with it more. But without band context it's not priority.

Does the VB2 have a presence and resonance knob?

Sure does. Resonance is at 9 o'clock and presence is around noon I think.

Big Torche fan, bigger Floor fan.

In Return is my favorite of the Torche records, that album/ep is just flawless. However I adore the production on Harmonicraft, it's in regular rotation for me just based on how fantastic everything sounds on that record.

Getting to play with Floor was one of my favorite Bongripper shows, getting to geek out with Steve and Henry for a little while was super cool. Really nice dudes, I'm excited for their new record. Also bummed I never got to see them before they broke up the first time, a friend of mine saw them a few times when he lived on the east coast, said they were incredible (back when they made a huge amp wall at every show).

I could just get a couple of these.

These adds always pop up during southby. Letting these out of towners take everything away.

and these hipsters are killing me

675 for a concert lead?

That newer Torche song Harmonslaught is very Floor.

Rule the Beast might be one of the best heavy songs ever.

With my Classic 400, it makes a big difference when I roll that up or down. Really helps with getting the low end right for each room. It is not a "set it and forget it" knob for me.

+100

After playing the terror, which doles out serious low end I found my self wanting more low end from my VB2. Both my res and pres are around noon now. I think I may have bass at 1 o'clock...
