Episode 88: S/D thread - No Hope

Lol, got a unmixed and unmastered copy of the metal band EP in my paws. The bass tone smokes! Lol
It's a classic!
I took the behringer sansamp clone for a spin at practice last night. Sounds pretty decent, not as much gain on tap as i expected, but I'm learning that that's a function of the ATK, output must be low because most dirt pedals are acting the same way.
Didn't spend a whole lot of time dialing it in, but it does a pretty convincing job of sounding like a tube amp. What i really noticed was how it made my hartke behave like a tube head. All of that familiar sag and bloom is there. It actually threw me off a little, because I'm used to SS amps.
I tried to replace fuzz with the bdi in a couple of songs with mixed results - the high gain setting i was using was pretty muddy and boomy - perhaps this could be fixed with some knob turning, but it did not sound as good as the Bazz or Rat > LH1000.

It's one of those vinyl classics that can't be remastered well enough digital.
I've only seen it once. Guitarist from last band has a great vinyl collection.
First time I heard Robin trower was vinyl vs CD comparison. It's shocking.

Just got done cranking the valve junior awhile. Its damn good! I'm hooked now, tube GAS here I come. I for see myself buying a Peavey Butcher in the next few months.

I need to fix up that pignose tube head I got for the bad monkey pedal, I feel like that would be a nice head for the bass vi that's yet to reveal a shipped or tracking number email... Reading comments reviews and repeating clips over and over so anxious.
I used a stock valve jr and matching cab for guitar for home use and liked it. I played the head through a bass cab and it was just too sputtery for bass, irons pretty small.

Finished putting the LM308 in my rat pedal, there's a noticeable difference. The OP07 chip had a more aggressive midrange and sounded a little a little dirtier - i liked it but the 308 sounds more natural and clear. It's definitely an improvement to my ears.
Oh hell yeah! My mom and dad turned me on to Robin Trower when I was a kid. Bridge of Sighs is a killer slow burn. Nice pick Sam!
Can`t remember if I already shared the news here or not,but earlier this week I finally brought home a Olympic White Squire Bass VI to go along with my candy apple red Pawn Shop VI.

Being a self taught bass player(with some pointers from my guitarist friend & my Dad),I tend to play the bass a bit like a guitar. When I inherited my dad`s guitar collection a few years back,I noticed that I played guitar a bit like a tiny bass.
So for me,with my particular playing style(or should I say total lack of any style),I think the VI is my kind of instrument. The only limits are the ones you impose.
But I digress.....
I just had my best mate over(who also happens to be a great guitarist) for some beers and food and more beers. After we ate I had him come upstairs to my "den","hobby room","man cave","Dad`s Room", whatever you want to call my room. Anyhow,we each took a VI,plugged into a stack and jammed out a bit.
Simply put,we had a fun time. My buddy played Converge`s Jane Doe(the song,not the whole album) on the Squire VI with a OCDemon running into a Rat Tail and out of a SS Ampeg 215 stack.
It sounded sooo fvcking heavy played on a VI instead of a guitar.
Holy hot damn!
Hearing him play that made my week!
(now I need to bone up on the Converge back catalogue)
The Vulcan is the best solid state ever, but tubez man, DEM tubes. I'm starting to understand.
So just brought my Washburn P bass home to try though the Valve Jr. For home playing it sounds gnarly. My sunn preamp and Altec Lansing 15" really help it work well with either guitar or bass. I'm super happy with this thing, it DOOMS great.
