Episode 88: S/D thread - No Hope

Brought the EGC over to Chicago Music Exchange to mess around with some pedals and show it to my buddy who works there.

Messed with a bunch of fuzz and drive pedals. I was messing with a germanium equipped b:assmaster that was actually pretty cool, normally don't like how they sound but I was getting some gnarly tones out of it.

Also in the mix was the jhs four wheeler, mxr bass overdrive, darkglass duality, Fuzzrocious ratm, and empress fuzz. Some were cooler than others. No real interest in picking anything up but wanted to hear how the EGC reacted with different pedals.

However, I was running all these things through an Electric USA power unit (180 watts, 4xKT88)....man, it reminded me why I loved the EA Orange AD200 that I had....but more simple to dial in and deeper sounding.

I really want it now....

in 2 months youll be done with SS completely hahaha.

and jesus, 3k for a ****ing power amp? EA's prices are a joke.

I watched a bunch of fretted Americana Phil X vids of the bass vi and he has it through a vox ac30 and that tone master and it sounds badass. But also I have friends who play guitar so once this house is ready to move into in early June I can play more and louder with others, and they don't have to bring much.

Anyways I got that tube head that's 40 watts, but might be able to handle 50-60 if me and my dad funk around with it a bit. The avatar cab might be the wrong thing, but I remember a discussion of some company going the 4x12 was meh but the 2x12 is oversized and loud as hell. I've seen a few with vintage 30's and a host of other things, I just don't really know much about guitar speakers.

Or if I was to challenge myself could I make a decent guitary/bass vi cab to match my amp, with just a jigsaw?

Guitar.

Haha, no chance. The amp sounds awesome, but I'm not aware of a tube amp that can get me the volume and headroom of a 3800 watt power amp. That being said, I'd love to be running a 200 watt tube amp with the 3800 watt SS along side it....

Their prices are stupid, I could never bring myself to buy one new....used however...

Oderus of GWAR dead... proof there is no god where two members of GWAR are dead and everyone from U2 is still alive.

Heard about this, this morning. Super bummer, GWAR was always one of the most entertaining and awesome live bands I ever saw.

So I have a potential bass project coming up.

I have a squire P bass that I have owned since 1999 or so. Just a cheapy, but it plays well even if it has no resale value. The pots on it are scratchy as all get out, and I have been kicking around upgrading the pick ups on it.

So I was thinking of replacing the volume pot with an on/off switch, since I never use it at less than 100% on, and replacing/ditching the tone.

What say you oh S/D hive mind? Ideas for pick ups?

Thanks, I have always been partial to natural finishes so when I learned about tru oil I have to get it a try. If you mean Postlang on Ebay he was awesome to work with, he even dyed the neck for me, some concoction he whips up to yellow the neck. Putting it on the Peavey might be tricky, the square heal stuff has different specs than the usual Fender stuff plus Peavey has different specs than Fender specs. If you need any measurements from my neck just let me know.

yea if you have time or whatever let me know the heel measurements.

I did find that an Epiphone non-reverse T-Bird neck I have fits the T-40 pocket just right. however, it feels cheap and I hate scarf joints.

I have definitely considered making a no controls P bass, as I pretty much always just play with everything all the way up.

I'll give a +1 for Dimarzio. Although they're probably the only P pickup I've played that can justify having a volume pot, since they're so hot. I still pretty much always play mine full too though, I just back it off a hair if I'm feeding back a lot at practice.

Sound better as in more treble bass or mids?

More bass. I just have the stock squire pups in there.

Which model do you have?
