Hi all,

Just signed up to talkbass today! I'm based over in the UK and have amassed a small collection of various extended range basses from 6 strings to 10 strings (even owned a true 4ths 13 string a while ago!)

I'm keen to see what you guys have in the way of ERBs over here, any pictures/specs of any basses with 6 or more strings would be of great interest! I've added a picture below of my collection as it was about 8 months ago... although the photo is only about 8 months old my currently owned basses have changed a bit as I'm always trading and moving things around to fund the hideous illness that is GAS! So for anyone interested, below is a list of my currently owned basses!

I've got a couple of Ibanez 6s (BTBQM and SR) and a Larrivee fretless 6, an SX, and another couple of cheap nonames.

That Ibanez looks awesome, that blue should be a stock colour, very nice indeed!

Binky was indeed from Life in Hell, a pre-simpsons Matt Greoning comic. The Simpsons was first aired on the day I was born some 30 or so years ago, and for years when I was younger I used to doodle Binky (still do!) everywhere, so when I had Fred make me a 10 string Bee Bass I had to go for the Binky inlay! The actual inlay was done by Bill Nichols, a ridiculously good wood worker.

There's some fresh snaps of Binky below...

I don't mean to be bias here, but Binky is literally THE best bass I have ever touched let alone owned, there is simply no comparison in build quality, woods used, sound, everything. Bass preferences are of course subjective, but Binky just kills it. Carey Nordstrand personally made the pickups for me after I wrote him a 3 page description of what sound palette I was looking for and the pre-amp is a custom made 'Bee-Pre', simply put Binky is incredible. I'll shut up now. :)

Is it just the picture orientation or are the ALL lefties? Ironically I'm a lefty but made the conscious decision to play right handed when I first started learning as being a right handed player opens up the second hand market to you in a very different way than being a lefty player.

That is really an amazing bass, and what a cool story! The details even on the truss cover are just fantastic.

Based on your detailed description of the pre and pickups, I'd love to hear it... Do you have any sound clips or videos to share?

The first one (birds-eye maple 7 string) about 250 hours, last one (12 string) about 40 hours.
This is roughly the actual build time it's spread out over several weeks or months. My current build project is already going on for over two years, I only work on it when I feel a real urge to do something and the urge has been very low!

This is actually my second one! I’ve had a fretless five string for a year or so now! I absolutely love them. It’s got this massive wall of sound that it puts out in a mix, and unplugged it actually has useable volume.

They’re super great guys to deal with as well.
