Double Bass Ergo megathread part II

Received my six string ERGO in February after 3 1/2 months wait. Very nice instrument other than the fishing line strung where the "C" string was supposed to be. Apparently Jesse ran out of those strings and didn't want me to wait any longer than I already had. Have ordered a new set of strings and will put them in shortly. Regarding the "rattlely-ass" stand, just pull the post and put a rubber band around the bottom and cross it over a few times..takes care of the rattle. Will eventually do the Tom-stand modification as the stock one is a bit wobbly.

Hi all,

I'm new to TalkBass, though I've been lurking for a year or so. My son is a serious electronic musician who wants to become a more serious instrumentalist and is focusing on switching from guitar and BG to upright bass to help with possible scholarships/admissions for college. I'm a serious hobbyist who is into looping, experimental music, and musical oddity of many forms. I had some bonus this year, and did a bunch of research and as a result, tomorrow Jesse is shipping out a father/son pair of basses to us - one with a twist...

Both will be natural four strings and one will go off to college in two years and one will stay in the home studio to remind me of my wonderful son when he flies the nest. The one that's staying home has a special feature - one I've been drawing/planning for years in a different form and unknown to me, Jesse was working on the same weird idea on his own. The bass will have an attached 6 string movable bridge zither/koto built onto it. If you think it's odd that two people would think of such a weird thing independently, so did I so I took a risk and commissioned it. My original drawings had the instrument arranged as something closer to a pedal steel guitar with two very different scale lengths, and Jesse's design is an UEB with a "sidecar". The goal for me is to be able to do more interesting live looping via my ipad/Loopy and effects board without a car full of instruments, as well as just enjoying odd and unique things.

Invalid Link Removed is the sort of stuff I'll be trying to pull off as a looper with these tools...

Once I have pics/recordings, I'll post them.

Hate to break it back to you, but this has basically nothing to do with Jesse's design or mine. His is a six string electric koto, attached to the bass on the side with separate piezos, etc. It is played as a koto (youtube it) with strings that can be bent behind the bridges, etc. It has a separate output so I can use two preamps and effects chains as well. My design was effectively a lap steel/tabletop with a set of bass strings with moveable bridges. I think his design is better by far than mine, and once I have it in hand I'll post pics. I can't wait to discover some new ways of playing music with this instrument. The bazzantar looks kinda cool, but isn't anything similar to the koto/bass.

Sorry if this is repetitive but can someone please point me in the right direction for a hard case, for an Ergo 4-string?

Has there been a discussion for bridge replacement or is that not recommended?

I will do a comparison of the K&K Pure and Martin & Co. Porta-Con.

If this is the same idea that I'm thinking of..... Hate to break it to you guys, but neither of you are the first to come up with the idea. It's called a "Bazantar". Bazantar acoustic bass, sitar-like with 29 sympathetic strings and four drone strings, unique musical instrument It's kind of like the sympathetic strings on a sitar, or when you depress the sustain pedal on a piano. Is this what you're describing?

I listened to the sample. Interesting but too brief.
