ESP's

I haven't heard of problems with the ESP stuff having battery eating issues, its probably just the common cable left connected to the bass/guitar.

I happen to like their stuff, I had one of their guitars before (Eclipse EC-1000) and it was great.

The QC can be a little bit spotty on some of the lower priced models, I happen to love their guitars and their basses.

I purchased an LTD B155, and then a LTD B155DX. Both had sub-par fretwork, and weak pickups - though they did sound OK. The hardware wasn't too bad, and the finish was nice. The DX came with a large scratch on the side of the neck, and had a short as it went through three batteries in two months. The neck seemed too "thick" to me that I didn't like either.
I sold both
[And yes - it got unplugged when not being played]

Maybe I just got two lemons in a row :rolleyes: :eyebrow:

I have an LTD B-404SM and its a player!
Neckthru of maple & walnut-easily the thinnest neck of the 3 basses I own; ash body-spalted maple top.
EMG pickups with an EMG 3 band pre gives me a pretty good variety of tones.
I got it just about a year ago and I have no regrets!! My band plays hard rock originals (bordering on metal) and some older covers and I dont get lost in the mix.

I don't have a huge frame of reference, so take this for what it's worth- but I have a pretty low end B-50 (I think it's down to like $199) and I am pretty happy with it. Very solidly built, heavy and well constructed.

I don't have any high end gear to rock it through (Digitech BP-200 and a Crate/Peavey PA), so I can't really comment of the p/ups or the tone (which I think comes more from the gear in most cases anyway) other than to say it sounds decent to me.

I kind of felt like the neck was thin and the probably fast compare to some others I've tried-but maybe that's just me.

I'd say it depends what you're looking for- if you want a solid, affordable-priced guitar, I think you'll be happy. But I can't really comment if their higher end stuff keeps up with that curve.

:eyebrow:, well that sucks, three batteries in two months? I heard that some people have problem with the the lower range LTD stuff like the 100 series and less. Sucks that you went through two of them though.

Yeah - they were real nice other than the problems - the blue FM DX was beautiful. I could have probably got it fixed, but I didn't really like the thickness of the neck either. Went back to Ibanez SR series, and happy I did :D

Ya know - maybe I did get two bad ones - it could have been :confused:

The only think wrong with the B155 (amberburst) was sub par fretwork - the B155DX was another story, BUT ... most likely it was just the one I got.

If you like the LTD B series - get one - they're beautiful - especially the blue FM DX.

As for the neck - it's the same width as the SR405, but it's definitely thicker front to back - don't expect it to feel the same

I was not playing outside of my home for about 20 years and only recently decided to look around and see what was out there so I'm like a kid in a candy store. You could not buy a bass in those days (except Fender) for under a grand. There was no internet and I live in a small community outside of Houston so if the music stores in Houston did not carry it and you did not see it in a magazine you knew nothing about it. Carvin was around but not as popular as my Schecter which is a fender copy and was well over 1K. I can't get over what is out there now and the playability of some of these rival those boutique basses from that era at 1/4 the cost. If I could get one of the above in fretless I would have already ordered it. (probably will anyway):hyper: When you are young you don't have any money, when you get older you buy the stuff you wanted as a young person. I have arthritis in my hands now so I just take two advill and play my ass off!
