EUB project

Well, very little time today - back to back rehearsals in less than an hour. I snuck in a little attention to the EUB/C (electric upright bass/cello) including another coat of carbon shielding paint, a layer of 'wet look' clear nail polish over the gold leaf (heart cut-out), and positioning of the collapsable stand. (not epoxied in yet) I have each length extended 6" to be comfortable for me standing - it gets up there! Seems pretty stable even if it looks a bit precarious. A seated extension will be less so. So far so good.

Control cover & jack-plate installed just for this shot - still need to install the string ferrules when I have quality time for it. Every stage of assembly has much fussy-work preparing for proper fitment.

That looking really good, can't wait to hear how it sounds. Just curious, how long (tall?) Is it from the tail to where the bass side horn meets the middle neck beam?

:) Thanks - The measurement you refer to is 18". The body length is 23" and the butt-to-top (body/neck) length is 42".

Thanks, I'm working on my own design for a gothic electric upright bass for playing arco and was wondering how big my body was compared to yours. The style is definately different then yours, although I might make a pair so I can play one of them at church.
Ps, my wife likes the bunny

I'd like to see your progress on your gothic EUB - definitely start a thread for it.

It is a portrait of my dwarf bunny named Jackie. (rip) When I got her I thought it was a male so I named 'him' Jaco. I'd have girlfriends over and he would attack them, ???? - then when I found out it was a female - it made more sense. (like, "Buzz off sister - that's my guy!) :) It was going to be a painting, but it never got past the drawing. Maybe someday I'll finish it.

It's not quite own thread worthy yet, it's just barely out of the design stage, and will probably stay there for a little while as I have to finish my three pickup build and a couple other projects ahead of them. I'll post some pictures in the What's on Your Workbench thread tomorrow.

My wife has two dwarf lop bunnies that she adores,

Bit's & bats… installed one set of the pu support magnets into the body. When I have more time I'll install a few more sets in different positions for a range of pu placement options. The individual pu poles are for the time being just resting in each channel. I want to play with heights once it's together and playable. The 4 wires channel though the angled hole in the body to the control cavity.

For mark II, if it happens, I had envisioned the PU-Mount magnets (or steel slugs, since the pickup-foot-magnets should do it) on the instrument body as bored in from the back - which might be rather difficult to decide on the location for on mark I, I grant - not quite as much force, but "no visible means of support" and all that lovely grain without benefit of shiny metal spots, while still being able to move it around to suit.

And yes, it looks fantastic.

Both good ideas! :thumbsup: I'm ok with the visuals of a row of silver dots and if I ever get an extended block of time to work on it it should look cool. Soon...

I have a third idea.

If the magnets are sunk a little further into the top, they could be sealed off with a thin layer of black tinted epoxy.
This would re-establish the harmony of black and wood grain.

The posts lock the string from a internal clamp - no need for wrap.

Knurled knobs/dials on the back raise and lower the internal solid shaft inside the hollow post. The string is threaded through a hole in the post and the shaft rises from below locking the string in place as you screw the knob clockwise.
