I've used both as well, and I prefer the Weichs overall for my purposes, which are primarily those of a jazz bassist who plays occasional arco. If were playing solely arco, I would very strongly consider the regulars.

I suppose it depends on the bass. Both my basses had stronger arco, louder and more rich, with the weichs. The tension of the Regulars is kinda high I think. Choked the top I suspect. I wonder if they are higher tension than the Spiro Mittels? They sound great on both my basses.
Regular EP sounded great arco on Brian's Prescott though, so I'm afraid you can't get out of trying them both.
I think they might be. i didn't find them to be complete hand killers by any means. But I think they may have choked off my bass a little as well.
Same here for me on my 2003 Romanian flatback. Now I'm wondering if spiro weichs would have the same effect. I don't like sprio mittles on my bass.
I didn't see this in the megathread so I'll throw in that when I moved my EP Orch's from a 7/8ths to a 3/4 the E string got flabby. So it's something to consider that the EP E string might play better with a 7/8ths.
I'm thinking about switching my Spiro Weichs to Evah Weichs. I play mainly jazz pizz and some bowing, but I'm seriously working on my bowing nowadays. I've had the same Spiro Weich (E Mittel) set on my bass for almost 4 years (used Helicores before that). This is the set that is most comfortable to my left hand, I definitely can't deal with Spiro Mediums. My setup is medium since I like to get a nice initial punch/attack. I've always wanted a string with a tad more tension than spiro weichs. Evah Weichs seem like the answer, maybe I can get the Evah Weichs and lower the bridge a bit.

I don't have weichs on my 7/8 right now. I do have the EP's regular gauge, and I am totally in love with the sound projection and feel! I strung my 7/8's with the Ep's regular mainly for orchestra playing, and I already have the spiro mittels on my 3/4 for jazz playing.
But lately I find myself only playing the 7/8s with the Ep's for both orchestra and jazz.

Just to muddy the waters a bit, Pirastro Jazzers seem to inhabit the middle ground between Weichs and Mittels. They are very similar strings in my experience. YMMV
Ksc.... I found that the Evah Weichs amplify at least as well as Spiro Weichs on my bass... and probably better for my purposes.
Punchier than Spiro Weichs?.... hmmm, not sure about that one. Just a different quality of punch, maybe. Less growly and great "front of the note" presence on the EPs. They've replaced Spiros as my "go to" all purpose string, but that wouldn't keep me from throwing on my old Spiro Weich set from the string drawer, and thoroughly enjoying them.
Regarding the arco capabilities of the Spiros, if you spend some time coming to terms with them, they can be a very rewarding arco string. They have an extremely wide sonic pallette.
Just depends on what you want to hear from your bass.

Thanks Marcus, I'll give the Evah Weichs a try as soon as I get some extra money. On your bass were the Evahs louder than the spiros, or similar?
I think they were a bit louder, and more balanced overall. With the Spiros, I used a Mittel E to help even things up.
I'm slowly swapping out my Spiro Mittels for an old set of Evah Weichs on my Upton ply and liking what I'm hearing so far.
QUESTION for you all. A friend bought some Corellis and I liked what I heard. I know they're cheaper. How does the sound compare between the Corellis and the Evah Weichs especially for pizz?

Haven't had Corellis on my own bass, but I've played them on other basses. In general, I've found them to be thinner sounding and quieter than Evahs.
I have tried Corellis in all my basses. The EP Weich give a louder, warmer and more complex pizz sound and their bowability is about equal. The Corellis represent a good choice if you need low tension
strings, since even the heavy TX series are thinner than most light strings.

The Corelli 380 TX (nickel) feel like Spiro Weichs without the zing. Nice solid sound for pizz. I prefer the Spiro Mittel E though.

Thanks for the feedback guys on the Corellis. Sounds like I'll stay with the Evahs.
The G string Evah Weich I put on my Upton ply definitely has a more punchy, low mid and stronger fundamental sound. It's lacking some of the muaw the Spiro mittel has but the bowing is just way better.
I'll be transfering the D string next.

I have a solo set tuned down on one of my basses right now. I like them quite a bit so far but I haven't gigged with them yet. I've got a show tonight and tomorrow so I'll know more then. I had Spiro mittels on right before so it was a bit weird at first. Initial impressions are, less sustain than Evah regulars and Spiro's but still some growl, maybe a tad less bright than evah regulars but I'm not sure because I haven't had them on the bass for a while and coming from spiro's everything probably seems less bright. A lot less scratchy with the bow than spiro's, seems like the bow grabs a bit better. Similar to the regulars but with less resistance. Feel wise I like them a lot. After the spiro mittels they seemed a bit floppy at first but not too bad and after a couple days it doesn't bother me at all. I'm a fan of low tension strings though, I was using innovation rockabilly strings for a while.
I think they are a great hybrid string, not too much in any direction in terms of too much/not enough sustain bowability, playability, slapability etc. They're kind of what I've imagined a string could be. Low tension but not too low, not too bright or dark, bow great, slap great, and feel great. One of the things I really like is how smooth the windings are, they feel really great under your fingers. They're low tension but the gauge isn't too thin and they sound fat for a thinner string. Coming straight from spiro's an analogy that comes too mind is the spiro's are kind of like a bridge pickup tone on a jazz bass, and the evah's are kind of like a P-bass. Hope this helps!

I'm also a fan of low tension strings but hate the small gauges.
I'm a bit on the fence between trying the Weich or de-tuned Solos.
Using REG now and maybe want to swap out the E. Previously a big Obligato fan.
