Ever had 'that guy' at your gig/gigs??

Must say, I love our commitment to protecting ourselves and our gear, but I must make a point.

At NO time should your drop your instrument, and then take a punch at "that guy." He might be just sober enough to use his face to break your hand, and then you will not be able to play for some extended period of time. Plus, it will hurt something nasty, and you will have medical bills. You might also have to sign your bail slip with a broken hand.

Use your instrument. It is probably sturdier than the bones in your hand. If your instrument should break, you can purchase or borrow another one the next day. And a new instrument is cheaper than medical bills. You will be able to sign your bail slip with ease.

And besides, if you use your instrument, you can go all "Pete Townsend" on the poor SOB. :D

Take care & be careful.

yeah........ Floyd Eye rolls HARD. i'm jealous.

we don't play a lot of pits. did when i was younger. now that i can afford decent equipment, whether it's the right thing to do or not, i'd probably end up hurting a cat that was about to pour beer on my gear. heh. that rhymed. i have SKEELZ.

like MarTONEEEEEEE i'm a big guy. about 6'4", 260ish. i will bust somebody's ASS if they're messing with me or mines when we're trying to put on a performance.

luckily that hasn't come up.

I had a drunk chick pour beer all over our monitors. She offered 5 dollars for repairs, had her removed from the club. At a New Years party we had a guy shake a champagne bottle and point it at us, I took my bass off baseball bat style and told him to go ahead.

A band I played with a few years back was doing a class reunion for the year that graduated after me. There was this one turd in the audience that kept going and going and just being a jerk. Normally it doesnt get to me at all but the lights were right in my face and I couldn't see who it was that was trash talking. I finally said into the mic " 8 million sperm cells and you had to be the one that got there first". He got pissed and left. On break I asked someone in the crowd who it was, and they told me his name. I remembered him from school and he was the biggest douche in the bunch. I couldnt believe I had let him get to me like that. Had I realized who it was I would have just ignored him.

In one of the bands I'm in now, a guy flipped the guitar player off from the dance floor one night and the guitar player reached out and grabbed his finger and broke it. "That guy" then got tossed.

Well, there are rules and laws that must be followed if you wish to avoid liability. Bouncers know these rules, so do the goons I bring with me. No one gets near the stage, period. ;)

Wow - I haven't run into yet but I haven't had that many gigs. He seems to get around - Australia, the UK and the US - so it may just be a matter of time before he shows up around here. And he sings and plays drums too .

Thanks for the heads up gentlemen - I'll keep a close watch for him.

well we had "that guy" in glasgow last year. we did the soundcheck and this romanian guy came up to me drunk and said "you, you verry good, sound like guns and roses (we really didnt). you, play some guns and roses. for me."

erm we dont do covers

*guy starts crying and runs out the club

yeaaaah. i lurv you you spindly little podangle, but i think your bones way more than that.

i stopped growing at 13. i was dangerously thin and it hurts me to look at pics before i filled out a little. and i weighed 170.

granted, i'm more chunky then i should be now, but 170 was just wrong. wait.... hollow bird bones maybe?

for sure! and that's the best situation possible if there's gonna be somebody drunk enough they lose their ****. just saying, i can't afford to replace my gear if some toe rag gives it a beer bath, and most places i play the bar staff and/or bouncers will get the bands back if the cops do get called. i lnow the SMARTEST and most legal thing is to never put hands on somebody, but in the heat of the moment, if my gear i can't (and shouldn't have to) afford to replace or my people are endengered, i'm probably gonna rough somebody up then try to sort it out later.

"uh.... gotta go. I GOT WARRANTS!"

oh yea "that guy", about 2 years ago i was playing with a band that hosted an open mic every Thursday and Sunday at a real sh*tty bar, and "that guy" was always there, the guitarist and drummer loved him and they were all friends and since i was the new member in the band and he was a band friend he though it was his job to haze me, unplugging my amp, trying to put his bill on my tab ect ect ect, well one given Thursday night it was packed and he was there with 3 other guys and this girl (front table 5 feet away from me)who was pretty hot who claimed to be 45 but didnt look a day over 18 and she is absolutely hammered. so during our break a waitress tells me that said girl wants to know if she can jam on stage and my drummer already said she could use his kit. so i go up and it becomes apparent she dosen't know anything about drums, so i give her mini lesson and give her a 8th note bassline she can play a beat over.... "that guy" starts yelling about how she should play with a real musican not a f@g and comes on stage and tells me to give him the bass, i say no, he starts screaming about he knows the band then tells me again, i say no....as soon as the tips of his fingers touched my strap i pushed him so i can get a good kicking motion and my size 11 steel toe connected with his knee, his friends had to help him off the stage, and take him out of the bar somewhere, last time i ever saw him there again.

The first time we played a local, annual event, that guy showed up and started giving us abuse from the front of the stage, after tying to ignore him for three songs, myself and the drummer had had enough, we put down our gear, and proceeded to escort him of the premises. The crowd absolutely loved it, the remainder of the set completely rocked, and we were asked back every year until we split! ... apparently that guy was a regular, and the staff at the venue had been looking for an excuse to kick him out for years, and he always goes right up to the line without ever crossing it, well after that night he adjusted his attitude and behaviour.

the CLUB should have someone to take care of that ! if someone jumps onstage, they should be thrown out. beer on my bass= i punch your face. i remember a gig i did around 1988. some guy came onstage, jumps up on the drum riser, and starts pouring beer all over it ! my drummer hit his hand with the stick, like he was hitting a huge cymbal crash, lol the guy ran off holding his hand. the more peacefull way to go is when someone jumps onstage, everyone stop playing ! then he will feel like a jerk. also, no one uses my microphone ! you could get a cold/herpes/oral warts ect .

In our case "that guy" is a chick who shows up at all our gigs, gets wasted and then wants to be on stage because she tells everybody "she's with the band". It's mildly amusing the first few minutes but gets damn annoying by the end of the night!!!
