Ever had 'that guy' at your gig/gigs??

yep, the minute he started pouring beer anywhere around me, I would have stopped playing and, one way or another, created a permanent solution to the problem. I'm sure your bandmates would have understood. When it comes to protecting my equipment versus preserving the purity of the performance, I err on the side of protecting my equipment.

"That guy" was at one of our gigs, once, teetering on the edge of the stage and hitting the cymbals with his hands. Our drummer was a rather large and unforgiving type and I was impressed that he kept his cool. Next time we played there I brought my stun gun with me so we could have a "conversation" out in the alley, but he declined to show up! Went to see you, I guess.

It's a long time ago so it might not be the same 'that guy', maybe his dad.

We were playing at an Army training barracks, New Years Eve 1971 and there was a distinct lack of squaddies on the dance floor, (they were all in the bar) but there were plenty of girls and our singer was making conversation over the mic with one in particular that he fancied. Big mistake, especially when her BF came back from the bar and jumped on the stage to take a swing at the singer. Now our singer was sober, unlike the sqauddie and he neatly sidestepped the punch. This left the squaddie heading straight for our drummers brand new set of Ludwigs (his pride and joy). I prevented the collision with the drums by gently directing the guy off the stage by sticking the A and D machine heads of my Precision in his mouth and guiding him to the edge - backwards.

All hell broke loose, MPs appeared as if from nowhere and soon outnumbered the crowd. We were told to pack up and go but our van had been worked over before the MPs could protect it. We never played there again despite being offered the gig several times.

We had "that guy" at one of our shows many years/bands ago and we took the sticks away from our singer during a tribal drumming section. He was quickly thrown from the stage by said singer and the crowd parted like the red sea. I do believe he damaged himself as he hit the ground.

The last sentence is my new sig, THANKS! :smug:

Great thread. "That guy" is a regular attendee at my open mic night. A few weeks ago he decided to do the "clean and jerk", or was it a "snatch", with a drinks table/bench next to me. Takes a very small dink out of my U-bass headstock.

Not enough to get upset about but next time he comes anywhere near me I'm stopping. He's onto it enough to know what he did so I doubt I'll see him any time soon.

This is a great thread. OP, sorry about the pedals man.. i have had that happen to me.

Anyway, "That Guy" comes to our shows all the time and thinks he can dance. typically he intimidates a lot of the ladies by trying to dance "with" them. "That Guy" has been told more than once to be chill on the dance floor. he weasels in without paying cover usually and somehow gets people to buy him drinks all night. no joke.. someone threw something green on stage one night (not money) and i could see his drunk-a$$ eyeing it the whole song, leaning over the monitors, just waiting to pounce... of course i didn't let him get to it.

we are still trying to come up with some sort of "we reserve the right to refuse to rock" kinda-thing when "that guy" shows up..

We played a show 20 some-odd years ago, was a metal show with two bands; ours, and the opener. During the opener, some jackhole starts acting afool, harassing the first band, sucker-hitting people in the pit, and just being a prick in general.

We go on next, the guy starts pulling the same crap with us. One of the guys from the first band is in the pit, while the jackhole gets on stage and tries to pull our lead guitarist into the pit. Guitarist proceeds to put a boot to the jackhole's chest, kicking him off the stage, the guy from first band then jumps on the jackhole, they start fighting, and they both get tossed out, where they both apparently get pinched by Dallas' finest....

Good times...

:hyper:

We once had "that guy" grab a tambourine off the singers mic stand and hit it so hard that it shattered all over the dance floor. It all evens out however. The same show we had a young blond hottie jump on stage in a very short skirt and proceed to booty shake in order to flash the band and audience her thong panties ala Girls Gone Wild. We quickly forgot about "that guy."

similar story, only it was a Navy training base. I was chatting up a cute female in uniform during a break and one of her drunk squad-mates decided that a long haired musician had no business talking to "their girl". He walked up and shoved me, then thought he'd intimidate me by smashing a glass on his forehead...a shot glass. It broke, as did his nose, and he collapsed to the floor. She told me later that week that he got busted pretty severely.

Sometimes "that guy" can be quite entertaining. :)

"That guy" was highly inebriated and during one of the set breaks, tells us that he will be playing the harp as well as picking up the guitarists backup guitar and joining us on stage during our next set as he was showing off his qualifications by playing air guitar. "That guy" was escorted out by security.

Wish I could afford "security":D
