Ever hate strings so much you want them off right away?

I put on a set of D'addario Nickel Wound yesterday, and these damned things are so bright to the point of being clanky even with the mid and treble at zero.

DR Black Beauties. The G string was dead out of the package. Opened my 2nd set and tried that G string -- also dead. Contacted DR and got replacement strings -- also dead. Never plugged the bass into my amp to hear what they could do. I couldn't get past the awful G string.

I'm actually surprised myself about this but DR Lo-Riders. I didn't want them off Immediately but after I played a gig the next day they just didn't have the depth or punch I was looking for. (My Rotos did)

Me too (I'm assuming you're talking about the stainless steel Swing Bass 66's). Too "grabby" for me, and too clanky and buzzy. To be fair, I've yet to find a stainless steel roundwound that works for me. If I absolutely had to use them, I guess I'd use DR High Beams.

The only other string I've tried that I threw away immediately was the DR Legend flats. I wanted a bright flat for my Ric, and these were definitely not it, despite the way they are marketed. I ended up settling on Rotosound 77 Jazz Flats for that instrument.

Yup. The one and only time I ever tried flats, they were ripped off in less than a week. Worst string experience I've ever had.

Rotosound flats. Didn't like them (way too stiff). Gave them a couple of rehearsals and short gigs--- less than 10 hours total. Took them off---- back to TI's.e

They my spares, unless someone want to buy them. B string never installed--- 6 string set--- I use E-C.

Only that's not what I wanted at all. Oh well.

I have one anonymous set, a nightmare that flew in with a Chinese 5 string. So embarrassing. They're the most unmusical strings imaginable. Very cheap, I'd bet. I was so traumatized by the sound they made I now have an aversion to the bass itself - warranted too on other grounds - the thing is in dire need of a setup - so they're still on it. Cautionary tale perhaps? Chinese strings are ugly things. I'm no expert but I say they'd make pretty good fencing wire. I hope there are better strings from there than these, at least I imagine there are.

I once got a Rogue VB-100 violin bass for Christmas. Lovely bass, but the light gauge strings on it from the factory were the nastiest, most tinny and horrible sounding things I've ever heard. There was NO bottom end, just an awful tinny-bright sound. I almost despaired of using the bass, but I ordered Labella Hofner flats and they absolutely transformed it. The Labellas turned it into a really nice bass with a solid bottom end and a great period sound. Most incredible sound transformation I have ever witnessed with a string change.

Yes. The freebie set I got with my bass sucked. I can't remember the brand but I learned this: Bass strings listed for $10 will be a waste of $10.
