Ever hate strings so much you want them off right away?

Roundwounds.

They're only allowed on my Larrivee LV-03RE...just because it's an acoustic and is required in order to compete for acoustic volume and punch with others in the band.
I've got flatwounds on my 50's honey blonde precision and all my archtop and electric guitars. That includes my SG Standard.

Well, I generally don't "hate" much of anything; it takes too much emotional energy, and I'm too lazy.;) "Intense dislike" is about as far as I'm willing to go; however...
SOP for me is to get rid of whatever's on a new/new-to-me bass as soon as the function check is done; and if I know they're D'Addarios, I won't wait that long. Those come off immediately. I replace everything with EB Hybrid Slinkys (if possible); then start my "perfect string" search from there. Which has worked pretty well so far, and the Slinkys have stayed on in several cases. :)

I've had strings that were great when new, but after one gig, they were shot...Rotosounds, in particular..Dean Markleys, too

Way early one, before I went to the medium-gauge strings (050, 070, 085, 105, and now 135), I could use pretty much anything, except the above strings.

After I went to the medium-gauge strings, the Ernie Ball Power Slinkys are about all I can find on the rack in those gauges. And I have yet to find them as a stock package without having to custom-order the sizes. Good thing I really like them...:D

The only string I ever put on and immediately took off was the Hartke strings that are a really good price. They were awful from the first note. They were marked as medium-gauge strings like the Power Slinkys, but they did not feel like medium strings at all. And they sounded awful. Tried two sets. Both sets came off immediately. Just glad I had some Power Slinky sets on hand. I love the Hartke amplifiers, but not the strings.

I pulled a set of strings off between sets once. They were DR neons and they felt and sounded like they had no response. Good strings should be easy to play - these were hard work. I generally know whether I like a piece of gear instantly though. There's so much good gear and so many good sets of strings that I don't have time to waste on gear that doesn't do it for me.

Fender nylons... Glad I found my D'addario Nylons (i like them on a fretless so they're not on anything right now)or I'd hate all of them.

Chromes too.. they weren't good, I let them break in, they still weren't good. Going to try some better flats for my mim P4 as soon as I find the right rounds for my P5.

Blue Steels are awful.
