That's just it though. Sometimes I, and I suspect many other players, get together for a jam, and the only PA available is barely adequet for vocals. You gotta have a big ballsy bass rig if you want to be heard. Plus, the places where I gig in Dallas, you have about a 50% chance that the room has a killer PA, with side fills. Obviously, you'd want to carry in the least amount of gear to get the job done, but sometimes, unless you've got a big rig, you're screwed. I'm all for the new lightweight stuff, I got a neo loaded 2x12 and 13 lb head for 2 reasons, and weight was one of them. But there are many times, when nothing but a big heavy beast will get you where you want to go. I suspect that may be why some amp makers still offer the "old fashioned" heavy gear. I know I couldn't live without mine.
