Examples of "that" tone you strive for.

As much as I'm all for originality and as much as plenty of new bass players get it in their heads to sound exactly like someone else (I'm relatively new to the instrument), I would effing KILL to get Dick Lövgren's tone that he has with Meshuggah.

Here's a clip of him riffing over Tomas Haake's drumming that I listen to daily. Think less "bass" and more "power tool" and you're pretty close to his sound. From what I've been able to gather researching on the Internet and what is somewhat confirmed by the video, there's a Line 6 Vetta II guitar head involved.
