What a coincidence! Shortly after I had replied to your post and suggested you, "...go git one, son..." wouldn't you know it... there was 'ol Esteban himself right there on my TV screen. It was that Gieko Insurance commercial (which I happen to like...), where that rock band is auditioning a guitar player... you know the one... Hey, toss in a couple of Latina senorita babes clicking a pair of castanets in each hand, then I'm in there, too! :D

was that the commercial with the guy playing the F Bass?

or am i confusing it with the other garage band commercial?

i should watch more tv.

Mine's really stupid 'cuz I can't ever remember stuff, and I was confused when I signed up and was asked for "user name," I wasn't really sure what that meant (obviously I'm a computer and internet genius-lol) so I just typed in the first part of my email address. By the time I realized "user name" actually meant the "name" I would "use" on the forum, it was already a done deal.

But now that I have dyed my hair dark brown I don't have any fewer blond moments. :hiding:

If I did, I'd probably get kicked off this board.

Of course, that's IMHO perhaps the biggest problem with this board, but I guess the world really needs to be sanitized for the protection of 11 year olds, born-again moderators, and right-wing religious fundamentalists everywhere.

It just seems odd that I have to use words like gosh, darn, and poop instead of words that actual MUSICIANS use.

...and I suppose THAT'S what makes me a "Basshole".
You are aware that there are forums out there that have more lenient rules regarding language than TB, right?

I didn't know musicians were evaluated by their choice of language...

when Woodchuck joined, I thought his name was really cool and wanted an animal name too.

Animal names rock!

The majestic lion reclines in the shade... he gazes out across the savannah... the heat is intense... the great shaggy head slowly turns as he regally surveys his grassland kingdom, and his pride of lionesses with their cubs... Secure in the knowledge of his own power and vitality... he lazily flicks an ear to ward off flies... having fed recently, he is inclined to napping... the sun beats down...

I kinda like that mental image.. I'm a Leo.

As Blackbird said, there are plenty of forums with less restrictive rules about a lot of things, not just language.

If you don't like our policies, why don't you send a PM to Paul?

This 'born again moderator' doesn't make any of the rules, I just enforce them.

And none of the musicians that I play with have guttermouths.

That includes an agnostic, a couple of athiests, a Muslim, and yes, a few Christians.:rollno:

They all have large enough vocabularies to have an intelligent conversation, instead of resorting to vulgarities.

That's fine...but if you're a bassist, this place is sort of a monopoly, so I play nice here, and use words like doody...even though I was born in a day when that word was best known as the last name of a puppet.

Question: Is the entire staff here born-again? (this is an honest question, now...please don't punish me, OK?)

BTW, thanks for quoting my post, as someone apparently deleted it for me...and I didn't even say doody! Oh well.

Didn't mean to make waves, just foolishly tried to voice an opinion here.

Didn't mean to suggest they are.

I just come from old school Jazz...and in those circles, if you're considered REALLY good, they say you're a Mother...well, you know.

I suppose I'm just not used to talking like I'm among nuns, when I'm among musicians.

I meant no disrespect...and I'm sorry about the threadjacking.

the rules were made by -Paul-. the site owner, not "the entire staff", regardless of their religious affiliation or lack thereof

there once was a time here at talkbass where there were -no- rules, and no moderators either. the rules were called into play because -the members- wanted them, as were the -volunteer moderators-. the site is what it is today because of the membership and its wishes, and that's why it's as big as it is, too.

if this site is too restrictive for you to express yourself, i can understand that. the forums over at harmony central are full of good folks who have a lot to offer in a less "pg" environments. maybe give them a shot too.

Sumtimes I call pple dumbass...then when i started to play bass, i realised that theres a BASS in dumBASS... So well, i added the ist so that pple know im a bassist and not an idiot dumbass :D and also, i ask a lot of dumb qns...i get not much replies for my posts and threads...im also a noob...i have no gear yet...
