Extended range bass amps..

Hi.

A speaker level HPF of any meaningful wattage rating will become very expensive, very fast.

Regards
Sam

... and will be relatively worthless since the idea is to prevent the amp from trying to reproduce those frequencies in addition to the speaker trying to do so. It's virtually impossible to achieve adequate performance (really need a 4th order BW filter alignment) in a passive (speaker level) filter anyway.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't F#0 23.12 Hz? That's asking a lot out of a traditional bass rig.

This is a reason to go "non traditional" and build something with a particularly low resonance. My prototype hybrid T-line/reflex resonates at 26 Hz and has good control of the cone at 23 Hz. Output is down but not by as much as most cabs. It was designed to roll off below 30 Hz slightly but would not be difficutl to make it work down to 23 quite well. It would however slightly compromise the mid bass.

If you want the low fundamental, you can do it - just design the cab to do it well. However, getting this at high levels would mean fist fulls of large drivers, low Fs, low tuning and large cabinets. Using a massive port also provides mass loading dropping the system Fs...

Just picked it up last night! Spending all Sunday breaking in/tweaking EQ. Will be back with a review in about a week!

Well first impression is love at first sight, or fEAR. I played her for 5+ hours straight today and am defiantly liking what I'm hearing. The volume appears to be leagues above where my Acme was! The real test will be our next rehearsal, and that leads me to another concern. I have gear to get rid of now. What do you have to do to sell in the classifieds section?

Awesome, good luck! If you want to experiment with getting more sensitivity in the sub-40 Hz range, there's the extended shelf or "half blocked" modification (depicted below) at some sacrifice to the higher bass range. You might want "more amp" to compensate, but it's helpful to remember that the fEARfuls will generally run into displacement limits (what decides volume) before you need to worry about the thermal limits.

Or you could get another if you end up needing more general volume :D I wouldn't suggest it until you've thoroughly tested the limits of what a single 15/6 can do.

So after about a week or a little better with the fEARful cabinet, I just have to say I am astounded, this thing sounds AMAZING! I can't wait to use it with either of my bands and put it to the real test! It is super loud, balanced, responsive even down at the low F#!! It sings the brown note with NO problem! So my first rehearsal with it will be this coming Sunday and I will be back with a most likely equally awesome response! Hope everyone had a good holiday!

Welcome to the fEARful Club Mate!! Just got my 15/6/1 and 1515/66/1 last week and yeah everything you have said i could not say any better. They are amazing!! People really need to hear these things....it gives one a whole new meaning of Bass!!! My band member get to hear them tomorrow so i can wait to knock them off there feet :p....ah The fEARful fEVEr....may i never be cured!!!

I'm at rehearsal now and I am 100% completely floored by the sound and performance of this 15/6/1! Loud, low and crystal clear! My band loves it!

i know what you mean my band got a chance to hear my 1515/66/1 this week as well....they loved how clean and low it was....but i think i scared them when i gave them a demo on how low it could really go by drop tuning it to a low F#....That Was AWESOME!!!:hyper:....needless to say i have no fEAR of a marshal Stack anymore or ever being told we cant hear you :D
