Extreme Mojo.....but how????

First of all, a stack '61 is a beautiful site. But what in the world leads to this kind of wear? Its almost looks as if the owner had a nervous habit of chipping the finish of with his fingernails.....and put it for sale before mission completion. I can imagine a story behind most of the wear, but what circumstances of normal playing would lead to the finish between the input jack and the bridge cover to be worn to the wood?

If I remember correctly, if you have a high Ph content in your sweat, that will really tear up a nitro finish. I think that's the reason that Rory Gallagher's Strat (along with lots and lots of heavy play) was so worn. I imagine it being worse on a bass, where the hand makes more contact with the face of the instrument.

Funny is that the area that has most contact still has paint. This was done on purpose IMO... I could start believing if the ahstrays had more rust...

IMO,someone has tried to further relic it or the person had some real meanass kids who done sh!t for spite,like picking the finish off a 61 Jazz!Litttle ba$^ards!!My 61 Jazz has what I consider alot of player wear,but,nothing to that extent.(see my thread on killer deals)I thought mine had a lot of finish wear,(I would consider the finish on mine comparable to SRVs Strat).Man,Im really gonna have to get me a camera 4 some shots of mine.Im new to this computer stuff.(See join date)Forgive me.

In my expert eyes (insert a "laughing to death" smiley thingy here), it seems the bass has gone through what Hector went through (greek stories, see troy ). Basically, as punishment (I suppose the bass crapped out on him or something), the guy tied it to the back of his car, and dragged it all the way home. Probably repeated for the rest of his gigs up until now.


So, yeah, long winded mindless banter for "fake".

Folks, don't fake relic brand new instruments. It's lame.

Is the vintage of this instrument authenticated?

Are there more photos? May we see them?

What does the seller/owner say?


My first impression--solvent was applied to the naked body and scraped or wiped. Later, the finish that remained was picked at or worn by casual/player contact. The bridge and pickup cover are not likely original. No shock there, but I'm wondering about the tuners, pickups, and electronics. Pickguard looks like late 60's or early 70s.

Second thought: someone wanted it to look like the bass of doom. Hmmm...I wonder about the frets, fingerboard and neck.

Interesting bass, anyway.
