It is not overwhelming with the overdrive. If you want distortion this is not the pedal to get. It will enhance your tone in a way that is truly hard to describe with words. Your ears will notice and also your band mates. Take the plunge. Yes I got number 19 and forgot it was on the Prymaxe site. I hope they didn't kick it around or something. Don't get me paranoid about it being out of the box and all that crap.
Let us know how it goes! Mine will be here tomorrow. I immediately regretted selling my V1, so I'm really looking forward to getting it.
While I can't give a comprehensive review just yet I can at least give me 2 cents.
I've never used the V1 so I can't compare them.
I did mess around with different settings, but I basically dialed in what I was looking for and left it at that.
I'm the type of player that varies my technique a lot to get different sounds.
So...I was looking for a dynamic OD that works very well with different playing techniques and string attack. Kinda like a cranked tube amp.
Play soft and you barely know it's there, play hard and it breaks up nicely.
This thing does that perfectly IMO. It's didn't add or subtract anything from my "base" tone, it just added a light OD when I dug in.
I usually play with active basses with some boost happening. For what I was looking for out of the Barbershop I didn't like the sound I was getting from EQing directly on my bass. It basically sounded like turning the tone knob down and lost all cut, turning into a bassy mess (since I had some bass boost). It was a cool sound, just not for me. To get around this I simply went flat with my onboard EQ to hit the Barbershop and compensated by boosting the bass on my amp instead. Bada Bing! Exactly what I was looking for. I had my ShuttleMAX which just made this easier. I had one channel set for my standard tone and the other channel set to use with the Barbershop.
It's also capable of getting a more driven type of sound out of it as well so it's not only a light OD. I didn't mess with it all that much as I have other pedals to do that for me. I have it stacked with a Fulltone Bass Drive Mosfet right now. Barbershop > Bass Drive. They play well together with similar flavors. So I essentially have multiple OD combinations at the stomp of my foot. Very cool. Here's a pic (signal chain Octamizer > Barbershop > Filter Twin > Bass Drive > Chorus Ensemble). Sorry it's sideways. I've tried at least 10 times to get it normal, but it's not working.

Just came across an outstanding deal on a v1 Barbershop. Someone should snatch it up. If I wasn't in the midst of selling stuff off I would. I also enjoy how the seller is trying to play up the "rarity" of the v1.

I've been toying with adding the V.2 to compliment my V.1 also. I'd use it for higher gain applications. Really interested to hear how one would push the other too.
I'm actually using mine on separate boards. One smaller and one larger, depending on what I need on a given night.
I'll see how they react together just for the fun of it.
I'm running a Fulltone BassDrive for higher gain stuff. Barbershop for a little pushed sound, the BD for lower gain OD, and the Boost on the BD for higher OD.

The Barbershop has also become such a part of my sound, starting another board would definitely necessitate grabbing another. I really don't want to imagine not using one at this point

I've been running the medium (PT Mini) for the most part, but when I bring one of the other boards I need to pull some stuff of the medium to put on the others. I figured I'd grab a 2nd Barbershop so I didn't have to pull off so much. One came up in the classifieds so I jumped...and then later that day the Ebay V1 came up for a great price that I couldn't pass up either. So now I'll have both the V1 and two ME's...one for each board. Plus I can compare the V1 to the ME. Hopefully it'll be here later today and I'll gig both of them this weekend.
