Touch sensitive, subtle OD is all it really does.

I have my Sag fully clockwise (less should give you less headroom, and thus more OD)
Drive is around 2:00 and volume is as needed

Volume=11:00, SAG=2:00, drive=12:00 has been perfect so far. I've only tried full on drive a couple times, but didn't experience any farting.

Drive: 11:00
Sag: 2:00
Volume: to unity

The Barbershop is a low-gain OD. It's supposed to be subtle.

Yes thanks everyone. I know the Barbershop is subtle. And that's a good thing. It just seems like it borders on very nice subtle or farty (on low strings) and kazoo like (on mids/highs). Not much margin.

I just got a grizzly bass and will be putting it through its paces. I'm hoping for a little more grit out of it over the barbershop.

My BS is currently set to;
Vol-10
Sag 2/2:30
Drive - 12:30

I run a passive single coil P bass into it.

...and am really hoping for a revision on the 1590a version of this pedal as the current modele B is not appealing to me.

I'm on pretty much the same as you. As close as possible to where farting starts. I find with a tiny bit of compression before, I can push it just a little bit more. If you haven't, try it

I ended up going from a ME to a Mod B, and even though it sits on my board upside down, I couldn't be happier with it.

On the other hand, I'm about to buy an all tube amp, so not sure how much the BS and Accountant will get used in the future.

The reason I flipped the Accountant was because it was just too dirty for what I wanted out of a compressor. Especially when it was sitting right beside my Barbershop... There are definitely some cool dirty sounds (and clean ones too) in the Accountant, but none of them really worked in context with my bands any better than I was getting with the Barbershop alone. Decided I wanted a cleaner/fatter compressor, and leave the overdrive duties to the overdrive pedals...

The trade I made happened to be for a Diamond, but I would have traded for any number of other compressors just to try them out.

which comps did you look at?
i like the accountant as it does,to my ear,do stuff,the barbershop, unpleasant surprise or four eye don't,so i'll keep mine but am at the same time thinking about getting a REAL CLEAN one too-ideally in 1590a. :)

are you using an active bass? I am thinking of getting one to pair with a VMTD. Leaving the VMTD as an always on pre and using the barbershop to add the extra grit where desired. my basses are all active, so I am wondering how that pairing works with an active bass.
