Faital Pro 15PR400 15 " speaker?

I have had one cab with the 3015 and you could really hammer it with out farting out. when it comes to any speaker if the cab is not ported or tuned properly you can have a lot of problems. The main reason I didn't go with the 3015 is the nasty frequency bump between 1 and 3k. I wanted single 15's and that was it.

I have messed with a few cabs and win-isd and have come to a happy place with these Faital pro speakers. I have pushed one and a pair pretty hard with 5 strings with no problems except maybe the strong breeze that comes from the speaker ports.

Now I certainly don't have near the knowledge of several people on this web site but to me, my band mates and several sound people I have worked with they all love my cabs. Maybe it because they look beat up but they've got it where it counts.

Were I in your shoes I'd measure my cabs, download win isd and plug in some speakers to see what you come up with.

You can call the guys at US Speaker too. They're pretty helpful.

Thanks for the info. I hope I can figure something out before I end up selling all this stuff and buying off the shelf. Dang..

Ok, as it turns out, I generally use only one 8 ohm cab at a time (front-ported 3015 non LF) The cab I've been using at our practice space and for gigs sounds so over-driven lately that it's practically become a regular distraction
What cab design? The best driver in the world is only as good as the cab it's loaded in.
Also what does that loud hum mean
Speakers don't hum. Amps do.
Is there not a single 15 inch driver out there that can be pushed hard without farting out... And that also sounds solid/musical/wonderful?
IME, no. A single fifteen that won't fart out will be weak in the mids. A fifteen that has great tone will fart out. The 3015 is about as good as it gets in the compromise between output and tone.

I'm reviving this post in hopes that someone will chime in (Bill maybe)??

I did some modelling with the 15PR400 4Ohm vs. the 3015LF. It appears to me that at low to mid power, they give approximately the same output. The 3015LF has a monstrous xmax, but this is probably not a big deal for someone interested in running a low powered amp. Both speakers appear to have the same sensitivity, with the FaitalPro slightly higher.

Specifically, in order to get the most out of these new microamps, the ability to run at 4 Ohms is an advantage if there is no compromise in SPL. 375W/8 Ohms vs. 600W/4 Ohms is a difference. This of course if you are not exceeding any thermal or mechanical limits.

You should be comparing it to the 3015, not the 3015LF. Going to 4 ohms gives no benefit, unless you have a tube amp that requires it.

Only 2dB.

You will be exceeding xmax with both the 15PR400 and 3015, so the added power is moot.

The xmax figures for Faital can be misleading. They use a different formula than Eminence. The 400 which is listed as an xmax of 5.75 is more likely a bit over 4mm in comparison to the Eminence. I really like the 15FH500. It claims an xmax of 9.25 which is more like 7.5 which is still great. They will be available in 4 ohms. I'm also building a cab without tweet and have a 3015 onhand. I also want to find something without the midrange hump.

Eminence uses 10% THD; that gives the 3015 5.9mm. If measured as plate thickness minus coil thickness it's 4.8mm. Either way it's comparable to the Faital, which uses a formula that roughly approximates the 10% THD method to arrive a 5.75mm. Using the plate thickness minus coil thickness method the Faital is 4.5mm

But how do they compare tone wise?
Look at the respective SPL charts. The Faital is typical of European drivers, with flatter response aimed more at the PA market, whereas Eminence has a midrange bump that will cut through better if run alone. If you low-pass the Eminence at or below 1.2kHz the result with either will be pretty much the same, so it's certainly capable of hi-fi tone as well.

My question would be while being ran full range would the faital have a smoother tone than the 3015? John K did a 3015 and JBL comparo and the 3015s didnt seem as warm. Also, after doing some checking on winisd, the faital semms to have a little better low end response.

I used these speakers in two cabs. And they sounded great. Very smooth clear sound with tight bass. Tuned them different just to see what difference it made and they both still sounded great though slightly different. But i never ever missed a tweeter. Don't have them anymore (went with a 2x12) but they were easy to sell once when they heard the cabs. They were a great one cab solution.

Also reloaded an old Genz Benz with a pair of faital 10's and it is sweet. Ran the data in winisd and the cab required no mods. Loud light and even sound. Came out great and knocked several pounds off the cab.

I was a bit remiss in my Xmax statement. It's likely more like 5mm in comparison to the Eminence. Greenboy who has experimented with this driver says that while the Xmax is a bit less than the 3015 it hits its power limits more gracefully.

There are no K140 charts about that I know of, but I used them and E140s long enough to know that the major difference between them and the 3015 isn't that they have stronger mids so much as they have weaker lows. Subjectively the results are pretty much the same.

IMO, if you use 3015's all you have to do is eq a little cut at 1.8-2Khz (about -3.5db) and they warm up very similar to a K140, but they'll also have more low end and handle ALOT more power.

Very good points. And I really enjoyed reading about your new cab.

High power handling is great but I think a lot of us aren't using much more than around 500 watts and don't really need to. So the faital is another great option for us as long as it meets your needs.

You're looking at the wrong driver spec. The power rating only says what it will take before burn-out. What counts is the displacement limit. The average driver can't actually make use of even half its rated power.
