Those are awesome. I like the idea of Rickenbacker pups on a Thunderbird.
I have two separate sig bass ideas based on my Wasburn AB-95. One would be fretted, the other fretless.

Fretted:
Maple body and neck (instead of mahogany) finished in natural
One more inlay on the fingerboard at the 19th fret
Inlays designed for five-string width instead of the four-string width on a fiver neck
Pickups (some sort of EMG40-size) with a custom chrome or gold cover and hardware in chrome or gold (the stock hardware is chromed but the color is more like nickel, not true "bluish" chrome) with Les Paul bell knobs in gold or amber)
Bound Tortoise (Archtop tortoise, not Fender "ply" tort) pickguard
No pickup selector switch
, simple vol/vol/tone with a dummy pot because four knobs looks better than three
Fretless:
Maple body and neck finished in natural
Ebony board, no inlays or lines on the face (side dots only), no neck binding
Wood body binding, wood headstock veneer, wood piezo bridge, wood tailpiece and wood pickguard (probably ebony or rosewood)
No pickups other than the piezo elements in the bridge
No electronics in the bass (use an outboard pre), thus no knobs
No strap buttons for either version. I play my AB-95 seated only.

I recently completed converting my Squier VM fretless to a Warmoth fretless jazz bass. I was inspired to go for the unlined fretless look after watching Ralphe Armstrong play his unlined fretless P bass on the Mahavishnu Orchestra DVD. The colour is called sunset orange which is a red colour that highlights the grain of the wood (alder). The colour of the body and the tortoise shell pickguard was inspired by the red P bass that Pino Palladino uses. I kept the metal P bass knobs on it as a small tribute to Jaco.
The neck is made of Goncalo Alves a darkish wood with chocolate coloured streaks through it. It also has an ebony fingerboard which should hold up to years of roundwound fretless playing. I tried flatwound strings and didnt like the feel or sound of them so its always going to be strung with roundwound.
It also has a Gotoh 201 bridge and Di Marzio Ultra Jazz pickups which help to eliminate the hum caused by traditional J bass pickups plus the tone of these pickups are a little more punchy and defined. Its quite a heavy bass so the tone out of it is much more rich and bassy than the Squier VM Jazz that it once was.
I still havent to taken a decent picture of it but heres a shot from my phone so apologies for the low quality.

years back I started designing an archtop style 6 string fretless. I reckon it could something like that. sorry I don't have a picture.
I am close to having my dream bass getting built. A few weeks from now, and I am putting a deposit down for a Jerzy Drozd custom 6 string.
It is based off of this picture of the Prodigy LE VI It is an earlier 36 fret body shape, with the top horn coming off the body a little lower. At the 21st fret instead of at the 19th where the horn comes off the body on his current 36 fret body shape.
It is going to be an Excellency VI 36 fret neckthru. Woods are going to be pretty much the same. It will have a Black Poplar burl top, with a maple body.
5 pc Wenge /maple neckthru with ebony fingerboard (without the inlays.) Nekkid. Also it will be without the Piezo saddles( I am having a pot installed and wired dead for future piezo saddle install) and no LED side dots, Gold hardware. Cost will be roughly CDN$6500. after shipping and duty. I have been planning with Jerzy for a few weeks, and we've pretty much hammered out all the specs. Just waiting for next payday and away with the deposit. (About 1600.eur) The hardest thing about this, is going to be the year it takes to be finished. Anyways this photo will give you an idea.
Now we're talkin'! Sounds like a great bass. You're gonna love Jerzy's three octave board implementation. You can play all the way to the highest fret in good position; something that far too many bass designs won't allow with 24 frets, let alone 36.
Lakland 55-94 with a buckeye burl top, maple fretboard, and instead of the neck J pickup there would be another MM pickup with a second coil-tapping switch. Also the active-passive would be a separate switch instead of pulling on the volume, with a dedicated passive-only tone knob. It would be sold with flats installed.

I've been trying to put together my "perfect" bass at warmoth, this is what I got so far:
Body: SG shape, Ash
Neck: Mahogany, ebony fretboard
Pickups: 2x EMG 3 coil MM pickups, one bartolini soapbar in between them(mohaha!)
I just wish warmoth did necktrough.

Some very cool ideas and actual basses in this thread. While I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, I already have my signature bass - a modern update on the Guild B-302 that I designed and Chris Stambaugh built. I liked it so much I got a matching fretless.

This thing... Hopefully. We'll see how it turns out. 4 strings, d-tuner, smoked chrome/black nickel hardware, maybe a kahler trem. Someday, I'll probably remake it with a neckthrough, though I don't forsee it being a big factor. Double humbuckers, I think. I'm putting two EMG 35dc's in it but if I could ever hunt down guts from a Wal, those would be going in. That, or one day I also hope to build my own pickups. Maybe something with a coil for each string, like Wal's or Ovation's Magnum pickups. Something with a HUGE sound and real versatile.
