Favorite bass gadgets?

I'm quite fond of my Ebow. I've used it on both my albums.

You can hear it at the 4 minute mark on Eclipse -

At 2:26 here in Hashish behind the violin solo mixed with some synth-

And in Morning Star at around 1:35 for the "chorus" and at 2:54 with Ed whistling-

Other than Dunlop strap locks I don't really have any gadgets. Does a Radial DI count? I like to keep it simple.

I'm get reasonable results playing electric bass into a Sonuus B2M and driving the the Moog T3.

Slower attack sounds, along with the electric bass, make the T3 the ULTIMATE EFX pedal. :eek:

Of course playing the T3 with its own pedals, or a small MIDI keyboard, work great.

Since it's not a straight-forward tone control, I think the EMB EXB qualifies as a gadget. Most useful and versatile: from straight-ahead bass tones to any degree of scoop, thump, slap, extra tone shaping, etc. It works with passives or actives, and functions as a buffer when used with passives and rolled completely counterclockwise. Every bass should have one.

I'm going to play the bad taste card, and say I enjoy my fretfx lights on my bass. They look cool, especially for the price, and since I have very little feeling in my hands, I kinda have to glance at the neck to make sure I'm in the right place. :)

One time at an outdoor gig for a "Family Friendly" venue, I put my pedals on a skateboard with a wireless. At an appropriate time, (a long audience participation segment) I rode the skateboard around while playing where the kids were dancing.
I fell, of course, but for a moment, I was "king" to the kids....

In all honesty my favourite 'gadget' (not a pedal or processor) is a couple of strips of neoprene mouse mat which I wedge under my strings for a mute sound. I bought the mouse mat in the '90s for £1 and haven't used it much since, so it comes in quite a lot cheaper than the bassmute and does the same job. And I don't have to glue it to my bass.

I highly recommend mouse mats, everbody.
