Favorite Bass Player

Far and away the biggest two influences on my bass playing life are

1) Geezer Butler (style, sound, right hand technique)
2) Allen Woody (for any application when I am holding a pick)

Honerable mention and still a huge influence would go to Jack Bruce

I cant leave off a few others who have influenced me in some way.

Geddy Lee
Les Claypool
Barry Oakley
Steve Harris
Jason Newsted

Some people need a mention here.

Anyone not familiar with squarepusher I would recommend checking his bass playing on you tube ESP if you want to take slappi. Further than Wooten.

Too
Many cool players but....

Pino paladino

Jaco pastorius

Jeff Berlin ( a fan of his skill but not so much the songwriting)

Stuart zender

Mark king (same as Berlin)

Squarepusher , 'Tom jenkinson'

An without a doubt was the man from Ian dury an the blockheads

Norman watt Roy ( shame that they couldn't put good chorus with good verses more often or they would have been all time classics up there with rhythm stick)

I'm digging Mark King at the moment. I've been a Level 42 fan for some time, but more recently I've been listening to a lot of different Mark King stuff, from really early L42 to his solo stuff, Grupo Mark King and some other stuff, and I've begun to really appreciate just how good a player he is. Brilliant technique, mindblowing basslines, and a good singer too .

Squarepusher (takes it beyond Wooten)

Pino paladino

Jaco pastorius

Jeff Berlin ( although I'm not keen on the actual songs)

Norman watt Roy ( Ian dury and the blockheads)

Stuart zender

My good friends Gaz Rackam and Niel Segrot both who taught me nearly everything they knew before they got famous. Ever grateful .

If the original Allman Brothers Bassist hadn't died when he was 23 I bet he'd be on every one your lists. But he still should be.

I believe you are quite right.

I know i already posted but I figured I'd share this. (not trying to derail this thread I think it's very related) I was lucky enough to might my favorite bassist Oteil Burbridge this past thursday night after the Tedeschi Trucks Band concert in Philly. What an experience. First of all the whole band was phenomenal so go see them! Meeting Oteil was just a big cherry on top of the whole thing. Such an awesome humble dude. I never thought I would ever get so star struck. I was like a 4 year old girl who just met Cinderella at Disney World. :hyper::D
