Favorite "emotional" guitar solo

Actually, this is my favorite emotional guitar solo. Partially because I wrote and played it. I wouldn't mind ya'll giving it a listen and sharing your thoughts.

I get the Bowie vibe from this as well. I also would say that it is due to the vocal sound and also the pace of the song. It's good. I like it.

Credit really needs to go to the pioneers: Clapton, Beck, Page, Hendrix, Santana. There were other really good players in the late 70's but those were the ones who laid the foundation.

Between the Wheels, Rush, Grace Under Pressure.

It's pretty driving, but it has the most beautiful descending C Major scale I've ever heard. It just gets me every time I hear it.

Lindsey Buckingham on "I'm So Afraid" always stops me in my tracks for some reason.
Especially the outdoor performance at USC in 1976.

I no longer pay too much attention to guitar solos, because frankly very few and far in between are actually memorable. Most sound the same to me, and many are way longer than what I'd like them to be.

But one that gets me every time (despite the actual duration of the solo, which is a lot) is the solo in Comfortably Numb. There is something about the phrasing, the feel, and even the effects used that make me shiver.

Others would be many Jimi Hendrix solos, especially those where he doesn't go completely nuts and sexually explicit (with all due respect to the honourably departed Jimi... I actually admire how much passion he had for his music).

Some solos by Angus Young also get to me... only because of the sheer power he delivers with many of them. Plenty of his stuff is kinda derivative, though. But what he does, he does it great.

Alice in Chains - Dirt

Oh, yeah, that's a good one. Also the one in "Would?" is pretty great. It doesn't sound too technically complex and it is relatively short, but it does make me feel a huge sense despair and sadness unlike many other solos. Which is a good thing in my book.

The slide guitar solo on Bob Seger's "Like a Rock". One of the best ever recorded IMO.

Andy Latimer of Camel (who has been mentioned) does 'emotional' very well, as did Pete Haycock with Climax Blues Band. Michael Schenker has 'emotional' in spades (try "Only you can rock me" on the UFO Strangers in the Night live album). Gary Moore and Warren Haynes too. David Gilmour is one of the best. But what makes my spine tingle is Richard Thompson on "Calvary Cross."

By far my favorite emotional guitar solo is the track "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic. Every single note is dripping with feeling and the dynamics are powerful. I've literally cried listening to that track.

That guy from the Climax Blues Band is a fabulous guitarist. His slide playing is something else - very different. Great band.
