Favorite "emotional" guitar solo

Well, it's a huge compliment. Bowie has always been a real master at making rock/art/pop/new wave that had some real heart, and good stories in the lyrics. Many times, you hear a great song by some unknown, only to find out Dave had some hand in the production somewhere. What he did for Iggy and Lou's albums was fantastic, too.

It's not so much that it sounds like Dave, it's that it has this vague similarity as far as the mood.

It reminded me more of the Rats. Geldoff is one of the most under appreciated artists I can think of. He's really very good.

I can't say I have a favorite. However, there are many of my favs already listed, such as several by Hendrix and Comfortably Numb. With that said, I have one that I really like right now because my band is covering it and my guitar player freakin' kills it! CAUSE WE ENDED AS LOVERS - Jeff Beck

I don't know about the best, but the FIRST I remember noticing was Dickie Lee's "9,999,999 Tears". Now it sounds like kind of a corny 70's country-pop song. But at the time I thought it was pretty cool. When I listen now I can even hear it the way I did the first time.

Mick Ronson was a brilliant guitarist. I saw him play a few years before he died. I met him as well, though it was just one of those "great show, nice to meet you" kind of things. He should get more credit than he deserves, especially for those early Bowie albums. Bowie always had very good taste in guitarists (Ronson, Earl Slick, Robert Fripp, Peter Frampton, etc). Stevie Ray Vaughan often gets a bad rap as being one dimensional. I always tell people to listen to Bowie's "Let's Dance" - the guitar playing on that album is very cool indeed.

Another vote for Ty Tabor. I don't think he has a solo that isn't emotional, but the one that immediately jumps to mind is his solo on "Everywhere I Go" off of the Faith, Hope, Love album. The way he bends the 3rd note into the solo and holds it for nearly 4 measures before finally releasing it gets me every time.

Also, great pick above for Clapton's work on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
