Favorite "emotional" guitar solo

After a High School friend committed suicide, the school's admin allowed us to play one song on the PA in his honour. We chose "Comfortably Numb".

I love this live version of "Still Got the Blues":

More recently, Joe Bonamassa's "Last Matador of Bayonne" is something special:

There are too many.

I could name quite a few by Jimi, Jimmy, Carlos, Eric, David (Gilmour,) for starters. Then there's all the other ones. There have been a lot of excellent emotional guitar solos over the years, and they're probably still happening.

I'll bet there's one going on right now.

Here's what's playing in Heaven at the moment:

You're right though, there's just too many great guitarists and great performances to choose from. It's like picking a favourite song - impossible.

I think you are right. "Stairway to Heaven" and "Layla" probably started the trend. Then there is "Freebird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. All from the early 70's.

I was thinking about how those songs must have influenced pop music in the mid and late 70's. As well as crossover country/rock. I heard Tanya Tucker's "I'm the Singer, You're the Song" when I was a kid and really like the guitar on that. That's the best country example I can think of but I'm sure there were others.
