Kim Deal. Most of the music I listened to growing up was influenced by the Pixies in one way or another.
+ 1 She did some fine work with David Bowie.
Tina Weymouth for sure. Carol Kaye too of course.
Along the same lines as Kim Deal, Josephine Wiggs is a favorite. That's a pretty recognizable bass line that I'm sure not many know who is playing it. BTW she was a really nice person when I spent about ten minutes talking to her when she was touring with Ultra Vivid Scene.
Indeed. She's (Gail Ann Dorsey) a fine singer as well:
Great stuff. Keep 'em coming. And while I have strongest respect for those with jazz and R&B chops (Tal, M'shell, Divinity, Gail Ann, Rhonda), I love seeing those shout-outs for Sara Lee!
She was no doubt a participant and a witness to the creation of a lot of the standards we listen to today.
Don't mind me, I'm just here for the babes.
Paz Lenchantin, what's not to like? She's an attractive lady who plays a Precision bass with passion!
This young lady is INSANE!!!
Two come to mind immediately. Carol Kaye and Tal Wilkenfeld. But, If I have to pick one, it would be Carol. The body of her work exceeds any other bass player I know of, male or female.
I don't see Chela Rhea mentioned anywhere.
Go buy her EP right now (it really has 5 songs, as there's a bonus track). She has a full length album coming out this October.
Of course it has to be Carol Kaye. But, that said:
Kate Davis on DB and TB's own Julie Slick on electric.
Wow, ThuzzleFump beat me by just seconds.
Ones who have influenced my playing, in order of importance.
Martha Grey (funky Martha, high school jazz bass player - I was keys player, and we rocked together)
Missy Raines (my virtual bluegrass teacher)
Bridget Kearney (Lake Street Dive)
Lucia Terino (Devil Makes Three)
Shelby Means (Della Mae)
I love a good female upright bassist
