This is a great topic for me. When I watch movies & TV, I always comment on the soundtrack. Some movies are only worth watching, to me, simply because of the soundtrack and its strategic use in the movie. Here's my list, in no particular order:
Spinal Tap.......Really. If you think about it, an extreme amount of song writing and production went into a Mockumentary. "Big Bottoms" is on my iPod.
Across the Universe.......I like the Beatles' song writing and the advances they made for Rock-N-Roll, but I never liked their 'sound'. This movie solves that. Tremendous performances on that soundtrack, especially "Let it Be". Carol Woods absolutely kills it on this song and takes it to a new dimension.

Nightmare Before Christmas.......I like most Danny Elfman scores. I like the way he thinks outside the box.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.....Seu Jorge and his acoustic, Portugese-rendered Bowie songs are awesome.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show.....Classic songwriting.
Platoon......Great songs and a killer, simple melody for the original score.
O Brother, Where Art Thou?......Something about these songs gets me. I'm not sure what, though......but I like it.
I really don't like Adam Sandler....AT ALL... but his movies usually have a really good soundtrack. I probably think this way because most of the songs were popular when I was a kid.
Anything by the Farrelly Brothers......Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, Me, Myself and Irene......These guys put together awesome soundtracks......Usually Indie music, too.
Psycho........The original. Does anyone not recognize the violins during the shower scene?
Pulp Fiction.......I mean really.....It has "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon" on it! "Jungle Boogie" and "Son of a Preacherman" too!
Fantasia....... anyone?
I don't know if this qualifies as a 'Soundtrack".......but I really like the musical productions the gang from Family Guy puts together. It's hard to believe they put that much production into a cartoon, but I can appreciate the amount of work that goes into their musical numbers. Great artistry all around.....Composition, Musical talent, Vocal Harmonies, Lyrics, etc.
My list can't be complete without Jaws........Is there anyone on the planet who wouldn't recognize that line?? Duuum dum..........Duuum dum.........you get the idea. I also like the composition heard during the scenes when the shark is being chased with the barrels stuck in him.
