Favorite Musical...

I've played many musicals from the pit, and my favorite remains How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. It successfully blends nutty farce with biting satire without sacrificing the romance, the music and lyrics are top-notch, and the mid-century aesthetic is tons of fun. The '67 film version with Robert Morse, Rudy Valee and Michele Lee, taken largely from the original '61 stage production, although without a few important songs, is an absolute classic.
You right. Finch gotta be stopped! (what a melody!)
Now he has to convince Mr Bigley to not fire everybody he's made seem incompetent ('cause of The Brotherhood of Man) the one woman on the floor sings the descant

I never knew that that was him, but you think about those lines on "You're the One That I Want" and it makes perfect sense. My favorite tune, as a bass player, in the movie version of Grease.

I've gotten to play a production of Grease twice. Regrettably, the score for Grease does not include "You're the One That I Want", nor "Hopelessly Devoted to You", "Summer Nights", or "Grease is the Word".

I used to like those too along with Greased Lighting, but this has become my new favorite.

Sweeney Todd is practically Opera and while very Macabre it is some of the finest music made for Theatre at any time IMHO. In a pinch though, about anything by Sondheim will do. He has the added genius of being an amazing librettist. His work will survive long past our generation.
