Favorite Power Trios?

Big +1 to Minutemen--Double Nickels and their live show I saw around that time were life-changing.

Glad to see the Husker Du get mentioned, too. These two bands and the Meat Puppets (a great one not yet named!) were the holy trinity of trios :D for me in the mid-80s. All on SST Records, too.

The Jam and Dinosaur Jr. are among my favorites, too.

Adrian Belew Power Trio. Absolutely amazing.
Definitely my favorite current power trio. I WILL see them next time they come to town.

I definitely have to agree with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. I love SRV and Tommy Shannon is the absolute king of walking bass lines.

But, I have to say my all time favorite is the John Mayer Trio. I'm not a huge Mayer fan, but I will admit, he can flat out play a guitar when he wants to (although his tone sometimes makes me want to sneak up behind him on stage and turn his mids up). But, in my opinion, the combination of Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino is the best rhythm section ever. Listening to Pino play is what made me want to completely drop playing guitar and start playing bass.

Gotta give ELP some more love here, along with the Police & Rush (natch) and Red-era King Crimson. Now that I have established that I am a prog-head, my choice out of left field is Green Day, for bringing punk-pop to the fore for a new generation, and actually making some enjoyable tunes too.
