favorite Star Trek series

Loved ST:TNG. Hate to admit it, but I was a total Trekker. Went to conventions and loved every minute of it. Have all sorts of pins, paraphernalia and autographed photos. Met all the TNG people several times and several of the TOS actors. Marina Sirtis was a hoot on the convention circuit.

Didn't really get into DS9 until just recently when I started renting the DVD's from the beginning. Same with TOS. It was much less campy than I remembered as a kid. I was pleasantly surprised.

I think it was TNG>Voyager>DS9 for me. I was like 8 when TNG ended and but I pretty much watched the whole series in syndication with my parents and continued on to Voyager from there. I would watch DS9 too, but watched Voyager much more consistently. I've seen most of the TOS but by the time Enterprise was on I had stopped watching so I was never really into those. Going back to watch TOS the plot lines seem to be much more classically styled (basically a western in space) but the visuals and "technological" depth are weak (to someone who grew up with TNG, etc).

And that link is why Trekkers and Star Wars fanboys are the WORST. I like both franchises equally, but don't obsess on how much pubic hair Chewbacca actually has, or whether Spock raises an eyebrow and says "live long and prosper" when he palms it.

Original series with an honorable mention for TNG...

TOS was a modernized version of morality plays....good vs evil. The characters were classic developments and probably type cast all the original cast members.

The special effects were hokey but lovable....they were almost "characters" in their own sense....the transporter, the shuttlecraft, the sliding door shoooop, warp engines accelerating, phasers, photon torpedoes, tractor beams, the plants with spores, the Talosians with the veins that pumped in their heads....awesome!

And how about a moment of silence for all those yeoman and security guys that passed in nameless vapors into their world beyond....
