This is pretty straight forward, basicly whats your favorite company that makes basses (i.e. Fender, Ibanez, Guild, Gibson, Epiphone, Dean, etc.)

I love Fender's and Dean Basses, mainly because I work very well with them when playing.

If you include past makers, Greco because of both their clones(T-Birds, Ric) and their creations that are modified clones(Violin solid body, Les Paul with 3 T-Bird humbuckers, the GOB series which was an attempt at Alembic clone).
1970~1999 models.

Fender. I'm no fanboy, but Fender makes a good, solid bass for a very reasonable price.

My tenor sax cost me about 4.5k and my soprano 9k... so don't be telling me that $1200 for a pro-grade instrument is too much!

Plus they have a lot of different models to suit different genres and preferences.

Peavey... Their Cirrus line is one of the best bass lines I have ever played. Smooth, hassle free, and tone for days.

I have 3:
Celinder - Because Chris builds amazing basses. Best boutique Jazzes around.
Yamaha - I've never encountered a bad Yamaha instrument before. Not a bass, not a guitar, not a drum set, not a piano, never. They're always good.
Squier - Squier used to be a bit of a brand for suckers but the last few years (I'd say from about 2002 onwards) they've really improved their building quality. The VM and CV series really illustrate that trend.
