It's funny, Curve were never household names, but they were very well known in that scene

I'm not, in general, a huge shoegaze fan but I do love Curve.

Dean was actually way more visible, and arguably more famous (certainly exposed to a larger global audience) as a touring, and sessions bassist during the 80's, with Eurythmics, and Feargal Sharkey.

Never heard of Feargal Sharkey. I know Dean worked with the Eurythmics but again, not more than a casual fan of them—never saw them live or anything.

Feargal Shirley had been in the undertones and the story is his two major hits (‘a good heart is hard to find’ and ‘you little thief’) were connected in a few ways. ‘Good heart’ was written by Maria Muldaur and ‘thief’ was written by benmont tench. Both songs were apparently written about the end of their relationship to each other.

Carlos Dengler from Interpol, he left the band unfortunately. Not sure what he's doing now.

The Turn on the Bright Lights Album is one of my favorite things to come out of early 2000s Indie Music. Their follow-up Antics is also great.

The Turn on the Bright Lights Album is one of my favorite things to come out of early 2000s Indie Music. Their follow-up Antics is also great.

I saw Interpol in the upstairs room of a London pub, back in 2001 : they were amazing, and somehow the sound was great.

All dressed in black shirts and ties, they had a baby-faced keyboard player, who turned out to be English when I talked to him after the gig (no idea how that came about, as I just assumed he was a full-time band member - by the time the album was done, he was nowhere to be seen, and I don't remember keyboards featuring).

Anyway, yeah, Carlos made a huge impression - not least due to the surprisingly excellent sound reproduction, and one of the best live mixes I've ever experienced.

But I immediately noticed Carlos' resemblance to Crispin Glover / Corey Feldman / Joaquin Phoenix, looking like a biopic tribute to the (now sadly late) great Steve Mackey :

I never paid much attention to Gary’s playing, because I *hate* Bruce Springsteen’s music. But the other day one of the Boss’s classic tunes came on the car radio and I found myself enthralled by the bass part!
Tone, timing, taste…had it all.

Trevor Dunn

Trevor Dunn is definitely underrated, amazing player, technically too, and one of my all time personal favorite bass players as well.

Quite proficient on upright too.
